Hi everyone I had a diagnosis mid oct after mammogram, scan ,biopsies. I had surgery one week later for removal of 8cm and 3 cm tumours in left breast and 2 lymp nods as showed up cancer., And reduction on my right breast. A week later after further biopsies another area was identified and mastectomy was recommended which 2 weeks later I had . I had ct scan to check if it had spread into my body luckily it had not,but mastectomy was advised .I was taken aback but just wanted cancer gone.
Today I got told my next steps chemo, radiotherapy and hormone treatment starting after new year.
I feel so thankful Iv been treated so quickly through covid and the medical staff have been brilliant.

However I feel it’s been a whirlwind experience not much time to think about and a lot to take in . It is starting to catch me out now and my emotions of relief and upset at loosing my breast and having the other one reduced is kicking in. And I’m anxious about chemo and all the side affects . How do I lift my mood again to being positive and upbeat and just be grateful I’m on the road to recovery.

  • Hi Starrynights welcome to the forum. Unless I'm mistaken this has all happened for you over a period of 9-10 weeks is that about right? Its ok to feel how you are feeling and its ok to feel anxious and relief all at the same time. Someone once described it  to me as like stepping onto a roller-coaster going for a long ride and never getting off the roller-coaster then it all slows down and you have time to recover your thoughts and feelings and that's possibly where you are now.

You will be upbeat again but give yourself time to grieve for the loss of a breast which is  a big thing for women and  not one thta has any easy answers either.

You have come to the right place though and we will be with you every step of the way and will support you as much as we can .

Sending some recovery hugs your way for now. xxxx

Thankyou granny59 Yes it does feel like a roller coaster and I know I’ll get to end of it eventually. My treatment up to now has been quick and medical staff amazing. Covid 19 gets in the way of personal touch and being able to go and speak to people but it’s great to know I can talk here and get support and also give support when I can.
