Hello xx

Is anyone else still awake?

I’m a single Mum with two daughters.

My journey began in Oct. I was diagnosed with 85mm of intermediate DCIS. I had a WLE (quarter of my breast, A cup).

Just had results yesterday. Intermediate and high present. Positive in all margins. The lateral shave had 20mm more DCIS. So a single Mastectomy is a definite. And decision to make, to go flat, our reconstruct.

I’m 50 so leaning towards the flat, with a future beautiful tattoo. Hour meeting with Cancer nurse soon, to discuss two available options, so I can make an informed choice for me.

Just tonight I can’t sleep. I don’t feel anxious, just sleep is completely evading me. Of course, I’ve had the odd dark thought, what if invasive cancer is found in my remaining breast tissue, or in lymph node? I’m trying to keep hold of the positive, that my prognosis is still good.

Hello Tiania, Good to hear from you. The waiting for test results is tough. Butterfly

  • I'm awake too.  I'm also 5 years post diagnosis of high grade DCIS - click on my name to read my bio.

    welcome both.

I really should get some sleep but it evades me too often.   The waiting on results really get to you but once you have a final plan it gets better.  I still get phantom pain and don't talk to me mood once I have date for my annual mammogram.

Too tired to type anymore but just wanted you to know there are people hear reading & listening xx

I really appreciate this thread, thank you. I had a re-excision on Thursday for DCIS. I have been emotional not knowing how to discuss it all. To sign up here and the first thing I see is about DCIS is so helpful. Wishing you all the very best.

  • Hi Rebecca.  It's hard to talk about with people around you as you somehow feel responsible for making them feel ok about your diagnosis while you are still processing it.  Hopefully this time they got a good result and you can move on with your treatment.

Lots of threads on here you might find useful or you can start a new one.  In the ongoing discussion is a 4 year old awake thread that's for chatter about everything; cancer, annoying people, Christmas, weather etc.  Just jump to last post and join in.

Thank you so much. Did you make any lifestyle changes after diagnosis which you credit for NED for 5 years? Your care and kindness and time is much appreciated.

  • Nothing spectacular.  I tried to be a less stressy person as I think stress can contribute to our immune system malfunctioning.   I took up gentle Pilates once a week which is calming and unbelievably I can now roll down and touch the floor.  I'm lighter - I was heading to 15 stone but now 12' 10 ish .  I was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year after BC and take metformin tablets which there have been studies on their impact on preventing return of cancer !  Because of diabetes my sugar & car. intake reduced dramatically.

    Hope you doing ok xx

Thank you. I am reflecting on this and making a list of questions for my results call. Rx

And I’ve written up my little bio. Think it helps to get and give empathy. Much needed!
