Hi
I was given the diagnosis very recently after biopsy of a high grade and intermediate grade DCIS, B5a. I will be meeting my surgeon tomorrow and will probably be having surgery mid- January.
All this is a lot to take in. So many questions right now.
I have read some comments on here which have helped. One thing I would like to do is to make sure I am fit before I have surgery. Lockdown hasn’t helped with this, however, I now need to be proactive and make this a priority. Can anyone recommend an exercise routine as a starting point?
Thanks in advance x
Hi Cheranne welcome to the forum. Thats a lot for you to take in and little wonder that you have many questions and you have come to the right place to get assistance and hear from others who may have been through the same.
I think walking is as good as anything as it helps to get you fit but also being outside helps to improve your mental health and triggers the happy hormones in our brains so a good all rounder type of exercise.
Keep posting any questions you have and someone will be along to see if they can help. xxx
Thank you so much for replying. I've only just found this..........not that good with technology. A lot has happened since I wrote this message. I am encouraged by your advice and will take up the walking regularly. I have several appointments before my surgery on 7th January (Tag fitting / pre-op appointment / covid test etc) and I have to say, the hospital have been so good. I'm feeling more positive now. I'm also less angry (we were planning to move to Suffolk in 2021. We will be staying put until I have the all clear now) and coming to terms with it all. In fact I consider myself to be very lucky in that this has been found (hopefully) in the early stages and is treatable.
I'm sure there will be loads more questions on my journey. Thanks for your support.
Hi if you read my profile- click on my name you will see I had similar diagnosis 5 years ago.
Re exercise. Look on YouTube for gentle Pilates . I do it weekly - by zoom now but it's been amazing at helping my chronic back issues. It's also very good at helping to shut out stresses of life as you have so many things to remember - engage core (hold tummy in), squeeze gluten and breathe! Amazing how you forget to breathe I find it amazing g that after 5 years doing a very gentle Pilates class I can roll down and touch the floor with ease.
