Hi

Had my first brush with breast cancer 8 years ago, diagnosed again yesterday. Didn’t need surgery last time, but this time having a mastectomy in 2 weeks this time. Would just like some general advice about anything really, sounds silly but just wondering what pyjamers to wear , button through , cami tops etc. My mind is just in a mess at the moment any advice would be appreciated. Xxxx

    Hi,

Sorry that you have found yourself here again. I had surgery 5 weeks ago. I spent 4 nights in hospital and didn’t use half of what I took in, staying in the hospital gown for most of it! I’d suggest taking loose fitted t shirts / pyjama tops and bottoms and a dressing gown. Take what ever you feel most comfortable in but clothing that’s easy to put on and off is best. Perhaps headphones if you enjoy the radio or podcasts?

Let me know if you have any other questions x

  • Hi , I was advised to have pyjama tops that button down the front for ease of checking the wound., but when I went shopping just before the first lockdown they all had t shirt type tops so I used an old but soft cotton blouse instead. I only had a lumpectomy  and so was only in for the day. Ease of putting on and off is key though as your arm may feel quite stiff for a while after the operation. Slippers will be useful as well as toilet articles and a towel. I took my kindle too though have to admit I hardly used it..Do you knpow how long you are expecting to be in hospital for - your BCN should be able to advise. Like you this was my second foray into breast cancer -see my profile if you wish. Sending big hugs - It's still a shock even second time around . xx
