Hello all,

yesterday I was told I had breast cancer at the age of 27. I am absolutely devastated and terrified of not seeing my little girl grow up.
has anyone else been diagnosed at a young age or have any tips on how to get through this process and treatment! Thanks x

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. As they say here, welcome to the club nobody wants to join! There's a forum for people under 50 - it's not always very active but you can look through posts there for a sense of how other people have coped.

Do you know more details about your diagnosis? You can put them in your profile for context, as everyone's situation is slightly different xx

  • Hi Just in case you can't find the link (that @m123 has suggested) to the Under 50's group, here it is, just join it the same way as you've joined this group.  As she says, It naturally won't be as busy as this group, but you will find ladies on there with answers for questions which many of us 'old uns' haven't had to deal with - e.g being pre menopause/ young children.

Please don't automatically think that it's 'the end' as breast cancer treatment has come on in leaps and bounds in the last few decades.  For instance, I was diagnosed 3 years ago and within a year a new treatment was available that wasn't available on my diagnosis!

If you do want to do some reading, please don't use Dr Google.  Often, because as I say things are advancing day by day, information is woefully out of date and often can be totally inaccurate.  Stick to trusted sites like Macmlllan, Cancer Research UK and breast cancer org.uk and you'll find a wealth of information that you can trust.

    Kindest wishes, Lesley

Thanks for your response I will check out the page.

I was told I have a invasive ductal carcinoma in my right breast. They’ve said it’s treatable and curable but I struggle to believe that. She said I was a stage 1 grade 3 but then mentioned something about being stage 2 so I’m still unsure of that! Waiting for the HER2 result on Thursday so we can then discuss my treatment in detail xx

Thankyou so much for your advice I appreciate it xx

  • Hi Mel,

My wife had IDC, stage 2, grade 2, node involvement. It was diagnosed 1 year ago, and treated (Chemo, Surgery, Radio).

She had her 1 year check-up on Friday, and it was all clear.

The treatment isn't pleasant, but you WILL come out the other side. All the best and good luck!

    Hi Mel93

I am 33 and was diagnosed in December. I have three children under 11 so I like you was absolutely felt devastated. It’s such a lot to take in. This group is great. Don’t be afraid to ask anything!

I had Chemo then Surgery and radio. I’m now on Tamoxifen. I was so worried about starting Chemo. It certainly wasn’t pleasant but I have to say it was definitely not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I am now trying to get back to some kind of normality, whatever that is with Covid in the mix!! There is so much the professionals can do now for Breast Cancer so try and be positive. Easier said than done I know x
