I’m booked in for auxiliary clearance on 13th December after double mastectomy on 27th September where both nodes which were taken was found to contain cancer (which hadn’t shown up previously on any scans)
most people I’ve read about on this site have had auxiliary clearance the month after mastectomy/lumpectomy when first few nodes contain cancer. I’m worried as there is a two and a half month wait between my mastectomy and clearance. Has anyone else had to wait this long ?
Thankyou Pushine and AnaBrock ,
this is very interesting about the lymph nodes and everyone having different amounts and sizes .
I’v heard lymph node removal is sometimes more painful than mastectomy so not looking forward to that , but on the other had will be glad to get rid of them .
Hi again Missi K. I had lumpectomy with double breast reduction on 1st October. Axillary clearance 26th November. My eight week gap was to allow for the massive first op to heal. Though worried at the time, the stiffness and pain of the Axillary clearance is something I'm now glad was done after healing from first op. I don't mean to scare you but you will be advised to expect swelling, numbness and pain from your clearance op. I'm certainly glad I was mostly healed from initial op. I had a kg taken from each boob and am now in possession of a perky pair of titties! I don't even actually need a bra now though do wear one. One advantage with the clearance is that there is a lot of numbness, so my bra isn't painful over the top of my dressing.
Hi, Elephant Lady,
sounds like you’ve had a really big op so I agree makes sense to wait and heal before having another procedure.
I am concerned about the risk of fluid build up afterwards as I’ve read it can be quite painful. I’m going away for few days over Christmas, which will only be 10 days after surgery so I’m really hoping I won’t be suffering too badly.
Im pleased to her you are happy with your new perky breasts after what sounds like a very uncomfortable recover.
best wishes to you .
Hi. My surgeon doesn't use drains either. I think the secret is do the exercises but don't overdo it as others advised me. I had a desperately needed week away before my op so hope you get your trip. I'm sure it will be fine if you don't overdo it.
