Welcome to the June Radiotherapy Discussion
This is a place where you can ask for advice, give and/or receive support and just query anything involving BC radiotherapy.
A couple of quick tips, if you are using a car to your radiotherapy appointments daily, ask if your hospital offers free or discounted parking for people going through treatment - Most do.

Here's also a link from the Macmillan Information pages, and this helpful video that some of you may want to have a look at.
This is a link to The May Radiotherapy Chat if you need to backtrack - It will be locked shortly for replies.
If you have any questions, just holler - someone will soon reply with some support or advice.
Keep using the creams post rads as you will still be 'cooking' for a couple of weeks.
Take care - You're almost there, G n' J
Hi all, I finished my radiotherapy on Tuesday, 9 days, 5 and 4. The only side effect I have experienced apart from some tiredness is the appearance of spots which were a bit itchy - although less so since the weather has got cooler and I started using hydrocortisone cream as recommended by the nurse. I had a phone call call this morning from a radiation doctor asking me various questions - about my skin, pain, soreness, mobility of the shoulder. She said I would get a few of these calls over the next few weeks, I get the impression they are closely monitoring Fast Forward as I think it is relatively new in Ireland. I think she was quite interested in my lack of any real side effects.
Hi social dancer,
Well. Done for getting through it. My RT starts on the 15th of June so the week after next and it's nice to see that you have minimal side effects. Did you get the cream during the treatment or did the breast nurse prescribe it? Did it help?
Please stay in touch to let us know how your are recovering too a sky oncologist told.me.i would be tired for a good few weeks after RT.
Take care, take plenty of rest, xxx
Jostar - if you mean the hydrocortisone cream, the nurse recommended it, 1% hydrocortisone cream available over the counter. Otherwise I have been using aqueous cream to moisturise twice a day since the planning scan two weeks before the treatment started. My daughter’s friend, who recently finished her r/t, said I should not forget to moisturise the collarbone area as she got a bit burned there. The aqueous cream can also be used instead of soap which was useful during the recent very warm weather.
Hi , I had 15 rad sessions finished 15weeks ago .I am still struggling with the tightness in the arm out and crunching in my shoulder , also sharp shooting pain in my breast .I have done my exercises 3 times a day since my surgery in August last year.I have been sent a link for a physio app from my breast nurse , who is going to ring me in 4 weeks to see if the extra exercises have helped .I got post surgery bras from M&S and they are so comfortable.
Can I ask everyone who has completed rads what you’ve been told re arm exercises? My range of mobility is fine and think I could cut down on them from 3 times a day (want some of my day back!), I am at risk of lymphodema given ANC but would reducing the number to 2 (or even 1) create extra risk?
Also thought you’d be amused by my friend who has likened my poor red armpit to a baboon’s bum...I just thank the lord I don’t have to jump on cars at Longleat...
Hi, strange you mention the chills as I do go from normal temp to feeling chilly to have ridiculous hot flushes, the chills last longer than the flushes..I suspect this is normal but intrigued to know if others are experiencing too, and lets face it nothing should be surprising after all we’ve put out poor bodies through!
Well done to those finishing unscathed!
Sam
