, sending you extra hugs hope they find something that will help you.

Well today the lovely Sal,() is back from her holiday, I know she has had a lovely rest. This thread isn’t the same without her, we have missed you Sal.

There is so much support on this Thread, thanks everyone. Hubby is still waiting for a scan date, the waiting is the worst.

Good luck to and anyone having treatment or appointments today.

Welcome , and any other newbies,  you do know you have joined the group where we are all a little mad, we have a laugh but we are all here for each other and to help, you can say whatever you like and no one minds.

Have the best day you can xxx

Aww, poor you, . I'm very sympathetic because I was also up and down to the loo a lot in the night - although in my case I think it is nerves! About to head out to my appointment at the hospital and I'm a bit scared about getting caught out on the tube - also not a lot of toilets en route!

    Good luck

  • Hope all goes well for you today Jess, and anyone else who has appointments/results/treatments today.

Loperamide (Imodium) rules here! Off out to pick up some more plus rehydration sachets I think!

    Hugs xxx

Hi  and - sorry to hear that you both have tummy troubles and potentially difficult journies today re: toilets!  Hope you manage to get through them okay, and that your pre-chemo appointment goes well Jess1111.

I've got a bit of gut rot today as well, but I think mine is due to the antibiotics I'm on for my leg, which is still really sore. The bruising seems to be extending now, which hopefully means that the clot is beginning to disperse. It still looks a complete mess though - certainly far more spectacular than the slight fall should have caused!

    - thanks for the best wishes, and welcome to the madhouse!!! Grinning

    - fingers crossed that your scan results at the end of the month are okay - hopefully, if there was anything amiss, they would call you before that to discuss things. Hope your eye appointment goes okay today. I'm still waiting cataract surgery, but that's likely to be near Christmas as the waiting list people told me it was over 18 weeks waiting time and she was cross that the doctor had told me two months as they know that's not true!

As for broccoli - I do try and eat some veg daily (I never hit the five/seven/ten or what every it is now portions daily!) and broccoli is one that is a regular, but it's not been very nice the last few times we've had it - need to find something else nice. I'm not really into veg through, so I have a limited choice!

    - good luck on today's last rads - I can understand not ringing the bell when you've still got 5 years of drugs to take, but at least it's another thing ticked off and you'll have more time to do other things when you don't have to trek to the hospital every day!

    - welcome back Sal - hope you've had a lovely relaxing week away and that things look a bit brighter now - we've missed you! xx

My hospital (so far) have been very efficient - I had a phone yesterday afternoon from radiology (only about 2 hours after my oncology appointment) arranging for my line to be taken out next Monday. Hopefully they won't ring me today to offer me an appointment at the same time but at a different hospital to have the chest drain put in! It's happened before with CT/bone scans! Still, that means no more line care after yesterday  - another weekly appointment off the list! My diary is beginning to look bereft!!!

Hope everyone is as well as they can be, and good vibes for anyone with appointments today!

  • Oooooh!  and

just remembered funny toilet story ( didn't feel funny at time )

years ago when suffering stomach problems ,in the process of Diverticular diagnosis I had a Barium Enema ( Least said the better  about that procedure)

unfortunately we were travelling from Northe East up to Mallaig the following day ....I polluted every toilet between here and there !!

Then spent a week locating  every public toilet in a very sparsely inhabited area .

So my sympathies are with you both

Thank you for all your good luck messages! My stomach is a lot better now, although the journey here was a bit iffy and I kept having to go to the toilet during my appointment, which was a bit embarrassing (particularly when I was having my bloods done and had to beg them to do it quickly because I couldn't hold on much longer!).

Loads of information and handout sheets and slightly struggling to take it all in - but it was very thorough and I got to see the ward too, which was good. They advised me to arrange help with childcare and get some meals frozen and things for the first week. And that I should get my hair cut because otherwise it will pull when it comes out. Also, I hadn't realised how toxic I will apparently be after the treatment - all the things about closing the lid of the toilet to flush and so on!
I did ask about PICC lines and ports, but I'm told I have "excellent veins" so should be OK with the cannula. I remember being told the same thing when having bloods all the way through my pregnancy as well! (I'm thin and I usually do quite a lot of gym, so I think they just come up quite well.)
They've also given me mouthwash and some kind of skin cream, thermometer, emergency numbers, a prescription for cyclizine and advised that I should get in advance loperamide, bisacodyl and lactulose. (Apparently the drug combination can cause either constipation or diarrhoea and one can quickly turn into the other - so nice!)
Since I'm feeling better, I'm going to take a bit of chill time in town - sitting down with a cup of tea just now and I'm going to pick up some bits and pieces from the shops in an attempt to be organised. And a bit of normality!
So yes, lots of information to take in! Hope everyone here is doing ok so far today xxx
actually I didn't realise you are in France! I'm originally from Marseille! Although been here in the UK a long while now.
  • You're at a brilliant unit......You aren't going to be short of much that you will need. I would get the immodium as well as the laxatives that they advised and I found through trial and error that taking the laxatives a day or two before a chemo dose eased the constipation situation.

The only things I would recommend in addition is to invest in the evonail and acetone free remover ( 2 coates daily for six, remove 7th, begin again) to help your nails and start from day 1 ....don't  wait and see .Also I was advised to use the mouthwash from the start which I did, at least twice a day and no ulcers or thrush. ( I may just have been fortunate but it's  not really a chore when you clean your teeth anyway.) Finally, have a really pretty turban or scarf ready for the hairloss. It helped so much to look in mirror and see something attractive instead of a shaved head!

It's really good to see the support you're getting from your hospital. Which is it? Not everyone is as lucky in the UK. Did they tell you when you would start? Will the childcare be difficult?

    Another hurdle climbed......

I'll leave you to get on with the cooking!

    Love Karen

P.S. I have lived in the south Charente, about an hour north of Bordeaux for 20 years. However, just at the moment we are in the Albéres between Perpignan and the Spanish border. Home on Sunday.
