  • Time to have a lie in!

My next idea is how about one of those gel cooling pads to go on top of your mattress. My hubby uses one in summer here as he's a volcano. He reckons they work really well to cool the body enough to get to sleep.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  • Thanks Lynn, but having a lie in loses its appeal when your sheets are damp from sweat :( already changed them once tonight!

I did try the chillow, which I found worked to begin with but soon got warm!! But will look in to the mattress topper.

Apologies for constantly moaning, I just feel so fed up! I'm trying hard to keep smiling and make the most out of each day........but dripping with sweat really is unpleasant, as I'm sure most people would agree. It's just a shame that the medical professionals don't seem to understand how hard it is!

I hope you have a lovely weekend Lynn and thanks for listening and for the advice xxxxx

  • I do understand. I had night sweats when I was on letrozole. It was awful and I got hardly any sleep. Also, I was not long out of hospital and just finished chemo, so I had no stamina and sheet changing was a Hollywood production. Used to take me about 40 mins, with many rest breaks. The only positive was that it was summer here so the bed dried out each day rather than being constantly clammy. I still don't always sleep but at least that part is finished. I still get hot - still using my summer duvet and it was -1 here last night but just hot, not sweating.

I'm constantly on the hunt for ways to sleep and will share if I think of or find any new ones. xxx

  • Lynn you brought tears to my eyes, finally someone who truly understands and doesn't make me feel like I am making a mountain out of a mole hill. I swear this week alone I have been told at least 5 times, that its 'just' a hot flush and that it will soon pass! Oh and then the best my well meaning Aunt who keeps telling me she took evening primrose oil and she only ever had one hot flush!! She doesn't seem to understand that a chemically induced menopause at 42, is slightly different to her natural menopause at 57!!

I know this will be hard to believe, but I don't like moaning and I try hard to look at the positives in each day, I try to offer advice and support where I can, but sometimes I/we just need someone else to acknowledge that these side effects are hard work and very unpleasant and that its okay to feel p***ed off! So thank you Lynn.

I hope you have a lovely weekend xxx

p.s I would give anything to be in minus 2 right now ;-) xxx

  • I went through the natural menopause several years ago and I can't say exactly how many because I didn't have a single hot flush. And I didn't take anything, not even evening primrose oil.

I've been on either letrozole or anastrozole for 16 months now and it does get easier. I don't think I've had a hot flush per se for about 4 months. As I said though, I still get hot, which I presume is a mini-flush. But now it's entirely bearable. So there is hope for you.

I think you do very well, all things considered. I don't know how you manage to hold down a job. I couldn't have.

Keep putting one foot in front of the other and make sure your sheets are pure cotton, none of this polycotton mix nonsense. xxxx

  • Thanks Lynn, have just been online and bought a cooling mattress topper! It's got to be worth a try! So that'll be here sometime next week, probably just as the weather gets cooler again ;)

As for holding down a job, it's hard. But it's the job I love and it's part of who I am. Nannying is all I have ever done and I would never want to give it up! Having said that, my boss has offered me the chance to drop down to a 3 day week in September! She will put the little one on nursery for 2 days a week. Now when she first suggested it I felt like I would be failing, if I admitted I'm struggling with doing 4 days. But now I have thought about it, I think it might be the best thing for me! I'd still be doing the job I love, but with more free time to do other things, including resting!

Just need to discuss things with my parents as obviously it means I will be around more during the week! But it means I can help more around the house!

Anyway I have babbled on enough! Thanks Lynn for making me feel 'normal' .......... Okay normal might be pushing it......I've never been normal ;) ((((((((BIG HUGS))))))) xxxxx

  • 3 days sounds good and

    NORMAL IS A CURSE!!!!!!

  • JUST a hot flush? Bl**dy hell. I was in a committee meeting on Wed evening - everyone else had long sleeves on, and I was melting into a puddle on my chair. There's no JUST about it!!

That cooling topper sounds good - let us know if it helps!!

Well, better get off to work now - another hot day driving around in a hot van.... Poor aircon is working overtime!!
