We will have to try and arrange a time! We scoot up and down between appointments and line flushes!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about having stitches in your mouth - it sounds worse than it is! Once the local anaesthetic has kicked in, you shouldn't feel anything much. I've had several lots of oral surgery for abscesses and it was okay!

  • Thanks Cathy , thats reassuring to hear :-) xxx

  • Hi ,

What do you mean by a lasting POA? I am concerned about my mum and stepdad too. They are about 400 miles away and they are both in their 70s. My mum was dx with bowel cancer in Sept '17. Fortunately it was caught early and she had op, but did not need chemo or radio. She has been my rock of strength throughout my dx. I hate being so far away from her. My brother is about 200 miles away too.

    Hi Gay ( )

We initiated lasting Power or Attourney (POA) for both finances and health/welfare for my Mum about 5 years ago  - she obviously had to agree to it It was done by her local solicitor but not put into action until after she had the stroke.

It just meant that the process was easier than trying to initiate the WHOLE thing once we needed to put it into place - once Mum had the stroke and the consultant/GP felt that she was unable to make her own decisions, we just had to put the POA into action by telling the solicitors and they registered it. I think it would potentially be much more complicated to try and do the whole thing once it was needed!

I would say it would be worth discussing it with your Mum and stepdad so that the paperwork is there ready to be actioned if anything happens to them and they aren't able to make their own decisions.

  • After getting some bad news about another friend, she’s just been diagnosed with bowel cancer and has just come out of icu after emergency surgery and I am thinking why does so many good people gets this such a bad deal, I was really upset earlier trying to hold back the tears. But when I look at the site someone put such a lovely thank you to me that really made me abit overwhelmed but for a good reason. I love the fact that we can help each other through all of this bad, and that many good things come too. I had a lovely trip out today as well so to be landed with this news from my friend was really upsetting more so because she is due to retire in a couple of weeks and she should be enjo herself, especially as her husband who’s lovely has Parkinson’s diesece and she has been his career as well as working. I really hope they found the cancer early enough she is just waiting on staging now.

  • Hmmmm,

Going to post this as it is weird and you can give me your opinions. Now my lovely sister passed in 2016 and she HATED with a passion Dad's army tv program. No other programs only that one. Don't really know why, the program is a bit before my time. Now I have moved house and just got my sky box sorted. When I looked at the programs we have recorded on planner, Dad's army keeps on being recorded! There is no-one here that would have recorded Dad's army! My children haven't heard of it and my OH doesn't even know how to record things. I didn't think anything about it at first, but when there are thousands of sky tv shows that could be recorded why choose that one??? As a scientist I am very sceptical about the afterlife, but it has made me wonder. Any opinions?

Aw  - that's horrible news! It just seems that once cancer is part of your life, it seems to spring up everywhere! Fingers crossed that your friend will be okay and they've found it and cleared it early.

One of our best friends had to have majoremergency surgery after a bowel obstruction that turned out to be cancer. He was quite ill and had to be in hospital for a while after surgery, but he didn't need chemo or radiotherapy! That was about 15 years ago and he's now spending his retirement driving around Europe in his campervan enjoying life to the full, so there is hope!

Big hugs to you and your friend!
