Hi Moomy
DID you say FLOUR?? we can't get any anywhere and I'm just about to start my last small packet of yeast (which is like gold dust around here)
The highlight of my days for the last couple of weeks has been treating carpet moths that have started to attack my Chinese rugs; that -'and fitting a new toilet seat.
So today will be moving everything around in the lounge before my attack on the "little b........." - last room I'm glad to say although my biggest problem has been keeping Taffy Cat safe and away from the chemicals. I will be in real trouble today and the rest of the week as her best spot for lazing in the sun is the window seat in the lounge. The kitchen window cill is just not the same. So I'll be getting a loud telling off from her.
Thinking of you puzzler and jmp
Keep safe everyone.
Hi ,
yes, FLOUR!!! I made a big cake a while back for the 80th celebrations of the first Bombe machine being delivered to Bletchley Park (I’m the rebuild Bombes - In the National museum of computing - technician!) And the lovely lady owner of our local Sugarsmiths shop ( who gave me lots of help and encouragement plus supplies me with icing, box and board) saw all this coming and she bulk buys stock, weighs it all out into smaller bags and sells/delivers! That also includes yeast! Bless her, she knew I was self isolating so she drops stuff off to me, we pay by bank transfer. This is SR flour, a bit pricier than it should be but otherwise all but impossible to get!
Hugs xxx

Hi Moomy
I was lucky enough to be able to buy a supply of strong flour before the lockdown but couldn't get yeast anywhere. I have baking powder and cream of tartar but don't think it would be any good for bread maker. Ive been making most my own bread since I had chemo. I did buy a tub of Allinson's Easy Bake Yeast - says enough for 14 loaves - , which I had only used once and even though it's still well in date, and says to use within four months, (oopened it about a months ago), it just won't work. I tried it with two different flours and had two lead-like loaves. So it looks like I'll only be able to make another three loaves from my remaining small sachet then it will be back to supermarket bread. Health food shop did have a different type of dried yeast - not recommended for breadmaker, ao I gave my daughter a bag of flour and she made three lovely loaves with that yeast - but I think that yeast has all sold out now.
I shouldn't moan - when I think of problems others are going through at this moment.
Debating whether I should go for a walk by the sea this evening as I've just had a text from my eldest granddaughter and was very tearful - a lovely text First time this has happened but made me realise that the loneliness is starting to get to me even though I'm in daily touch with my family and friends. Being back on here has helped, although today can't log on on my iPhone.

Hi
Have you tried to source some brewers yeast?
I think you can switch between brewers and bakers yeasts ?

Hi
I was able to get a delivery of flour and yeast from a local bakery who are known for their meat pies pasties etc in my area.
may be worth ring around to check.
Have you tried adding some honey 1 teaspoon in a tepid liquid to activate the yeast.
, it may work
good luck
stay safe

Thank you, bit apprehensive about venturing outside again!
Feels a bit like stepping on the Moon if that makes sense? I have 2 face masks, made by a local woman from Next Door App ( ex Milliner), but not very comfortable. I think she hadn’t got technique right at that point. The mask tends to squash my nose, which isn’t that big to start with !
I have not been outside for a walk since last month’s Oncology visit to collect next cycle of chemo tablets and get injections.
I have ordered 3 masks from another lady on Face Book and one more from a clothing firm. So at least one or more should be comfortable mask
