Morning guys,  has anyone got a bit of advice on the stiffness caused by Letrozole. I'm in agony with the joints in my fingers, they hurt so much, especially through the night (I presume because I'm not moving them much) I tend to wake up between 2-3 am then that's it I'm constantly spreading my hands open to keep my fingers moving. I don't think I can stay on these for 3 years.

Has anyone else had the same problem.

Thanks

Karen xx

  • Hello,

    Hope you are doing well.

My mom has been diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer with mets to the bones - ER+ and HER2+. She is on a 3 weekly Trastuzumab and daily Letrozole 2.5 mg tablet.

She has been complaining of dizziness and shoulder pain recently, could that be because of Letrozole?

We have started her on CBD oil recently, does it help?

    Please respond.

    Regards,

    CANE

  • I've been taking Anastrozole for over a year and i have just a couple of days ago woke up with the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced in my wrist, I can hardly move it, its agony, I havent banged it or anything I am just hoping its not the meds as I was quite

happy on these, but if this pain continues and its them I will have to stop - its actually made me cry its so bad.

  • Hi

Also struggling but it’s my ankles left one in particular and my hit and bones in my bum although this seems to have settled.

I am coming to the end of my third packet also Accord, BCN nurse said to try to persevere for 6 months to allow things to settle. I find moving helpful as I soon stiffen up. I rub Ancca oil in my ankle morning and night which may be helping too.

I am waiting for radiotherapy, oncologist said December and Letrozole was as important as treatment. I am taking calcium tablets too, like footballs lol oncologist said he would like me to remain on Letrozole for 5 years to tolerate for 7 and hopefully take them for 10!

At times I could easily throw the towel in but then think are they the lesser of two evils. I am really flat and fed up but not sure if it’s what happened or the medication and have returned to work thinking I would feel better but at times feel worse.

Hi I just wanted to drop in here as i have received these messages out of the blue so I think it must be an old link!!

I am on Letrozole and will be for another 4 years. I have been cancer clear for 6 years now but would point out about the Letrozole. When I first started on it each prescription I was given was for a different brand, now, this is important, as, like you, I suffered horrendous aches and pains and other time were fine, so after thorough investigation I realised that the Accord brand was the only one I could tolerate.

The doctors all 'poo poo' this however, there is a difference in the brands, the medicine stays the same but it was in the coatings of each brand that was different.

It was a lot of trial and error and my pharmacy now know I will only have the Accord brand.

Now this COULD be your problem or it might be something else altogether but might be worth trying another brand, it could make all the difference (or none at all!!).

Hope this helps, take care all you lovely ladies and good luck with treatments etc.

  • Hi

I just wanted to drop into this discussion as I have received messages from this forum so must be an old link!!

I have been clear now for 6 years but wanted to talk about the Letrozole. I am currently taking this and will be for another 4 years. When I first started on it I was experiencing all sorts of aches and pains etc. Some months I would be fine others very achy. I realised that I was receiving a different BRAND of Letrozole each month from the pharmacy so, after a lot of trial and error, I realised the Accord brand was the only brand I could tolerate. When speaking with GP and oncologist they ‘poo pooed’ the idea saying there was no difference. After doing a comparison of the different brands I had been taking I realised that the ‘medicine’ in each tablet and brand is exactly the same HOWEVER, the coatings on the tablets were different!!

I now only have Accord brand and am absolutely fine. Whether this will work for you I don’t know but thought I would share this with you all.

I know when I was undergoing treatment this forum was an absolute godsend. I was talking to like-minded people every day and the help and support and advise I was given was second to none.

I hope this bit of info might help some of you.

Take care and good luck with your treatments. There is light at the end of the tunnel!!

  • Hi I've been on the accord brand for 9 yrs now finish next year,  was on 5 yrs oncologist then said 7, then 10, but no more than 10 as there is no data for benefits after 10, I can't take any other brand, did the trial and error and accord is the only brand that doesn't make me a cripple, and the other lady is correct about doctors not knowing anything about the issues with different brands but it's true, my pharmacist looked into it too, she believed the issues and I had to complete a yellow form and send to government so that they build up a file to investigate so u could do that to add fuel to the fire, as the fillers they use around the drug is the issue and you will gain weight because the drug strips out the estrogen in yr body which makes u gain weight. Hope this helps Sally xx
