Hi all,

Wondered what book recommendations you may have - maybe something you read when first diagnosed or during treatment or something that was eye opening or helped you through? Keen to add some to my collection. For me, I particularly found 'the cancer whisperer', 'radical remissions' and '50 critical cancer answers' eye opening and moving. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

    Hi

I really can't recommend the Priticia Prijatel book enough. Please don't go into full panic mode with TNBC.

I see a consultant alternatively every three months (as you describe). I'm now into year two post diagnosis so this will change to six months soon.

if you were to ask your oncologist, would your after care be any different if you had any other type of BC and the same treatment you would probably find it exactly the same.

recurrence risk is higher for us within the first 5 years but get to that and your risk is way below ER+ BC. Recurrence of ER+ will continue post 10 years but it's not like that with TNBC.

There are so many differt subtypes of TNBC that one size does not fit all and that's why we all respond so differently to neo adjuvant chemo.

I like to view the positives of TNBC. Would I be wanting to take hormone therapies at 41 Years, no not really. I'm happy that if I can get through another three years my risk of recurrence is very low.

Do speak to your Onco and let him give some confidence. Mine was terrific.

Thanks   for the TNBC info. I confess it's made my week already. I follow the research into TNBC therapies and it's looked promising for awhile now.

    Happy happy happy .

I have also read the Emporer of all Maladies and would highly recommend it. It is heavy going in parts, but it was oddly comforting to read about the amount of research that is always going on. I recommended it to my radiologist and she is reading it at the mo. I actually googled 'emporer of all maladies pdf' and read it for free, on my iPad. X

  • Thanks Julia.

I'm a bit naive to get this far without clarifying everything but I think I was just feeling so unwell with the chemo and so weary with the 33 radiotherapies, I didn't think about it. I'm normally very positive and you're right, by tea time I will have put everything back into perspective. As you say, with 3 monthly check ups, if anything does come back, there's time to sort it out again! And yes, not having to take things with other side effects, has to be a bonus.

I am going on holiday for September so I will be too busy planning for a month away to let it worry me now.

I'll keep in touch from time to time to see how everyone's doing.

Just out of interest...is one type more frequent than another or are there so many variables, its not possible to say?

Hope your next 3 years pass quickly.

    Love Karen

I can also recommend Patricia Prijatel's book: Surviving Triple Negative Breast Cancer. It presents a much more positive view of TNBC than anything else I've read (eg 88.7% of women with TNBC had no recurrences after 10 years). Obviously, every case is different but no one can predict the future so I'm choosing to believe everything in this book.

  • Hi I am triple positive. Grade 2 21mm my lymph nodes are clear.  Can you please give me some advise how long I may have chemo for pls xx
