Hello,

I was just wondering how people have found working with a terminal illness, whether they have felt discriminated against or supported, does your work know that you diagnose is terminal?

Ny husband works full-time in a well paid role but currently work is a little slow and I wonder what would happen if he was asked to reduce hours or made redundant, his work has been currently supportive but on top of everything looking for a new job wouldn't be ideal. He has worked there for 17yrs and love's his job.

It's just another worry, the only thing different since his diagnosis is that he can't drive but this doesn't effect his work greatly.Although I worry about the capability loop hole.

Anyone's experience would be welcome.

  • Hi  …… I don’t normally post in this group as my cancers are completely different but I noticed your heading and wanted to look at your challenges….. your husband is protected under the Disabilities Laws but you need to get clear u formation just in case you have to deal with the issues you have highlighted.

Let’s look for any group members with first hand experience to pick up on your post but you may also want to widen your search for information by….

Calling the the Macmillan Support Line that is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides benefits, financial and work guidance.

You could join and put up a post in our general….

    Carers only

         and

    Supporting someone with incurable cancer

……. support groups where you will connect with a wide range of members navigating the exact same support challenges.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

I do hope you get the information you need ((hugs))
