Hi everyone,

I’m 42 living in Essex and am awaiting sigmoid resection surgery to remove a cancerous stricturing tumour.

My story so far is that bowel wall thickening was identified at the end of December through an abdominal CT scan. I’ve since had clear results on my chest CT scan, confirmation my liver is clear and confirmation that additional polyps removed during the colonoscopy were not cancerous.

I have found it difficult to wait for all the scans and biopsy results to come back, but am feeling positive that surgery will be soon and I’m looking forward to progressing with treatment. Obviously there are worries about what will happen during the surgery, whether key hole surgery will work or whether open surgery is needed, concerns about the potential of needing a stoma and whether chemo will follow and what that means…

I’ve appreciated finding this forum and being able to read other threads so just wanted to say hi, and to say thank you to everyone who has shared information.

A couple of things I’m interested to learn more about are ideas for low fibre vegetarian diet, tips for what to take to hospital that would be in addition to the standard stuff, whether others worked whilst awaiting surgery and what exercise others did at this stage. At the moment I’m walking dogs but today the anaesthetist suggested going to gym if possible to maintain fitness levels.

Appreciate any comments and wishing all my best to others who are struggling.
