Cancer or NOT? What next?

I have had a diagnosis of a lesion in my Colon.

The biopsy is non malignant but active.

The CT scan suggests that it has not spread.

I have been scheduled for a Colonectamy.

I have currently no symptoms

I am 80.

I understand I will take around 4 months to recover and I will at least initially be invalid.

I am wondering given my age that the cure might be worse than the disease I don't currently have.

Does anyone had a similar diagnosis and what path did they take surgery or party?

  • Hi  I was younger than you when diagnosed but can appreciate why you have concerns. The normal recovery is around 6 weeks but that would obviously depend on any other health issues and any set backs that there might be post op.

I know that’s not been much help but my reply will bump your post back up the board and hopefully someone else might pop in?

    Take care

  • Thanks for your reply Many people would be "happy" that this is very early stage and odds good

I just worried that "cure" is worse than the disease

    Thanks for your help

  • I have no specific experience with this but I think you need to have a long talk with your doctor about prognosis and the pros and cons of treatment.

With an actively growing lesion, you may be at risk of a bowel blockage. It was a serious concern with me prior to my surgery. A bowel blockage would be enormously painful and could lead to a rupture. You'd end up in an emergency surgery. If this is a risk for you, I can see why surgery is recommended. But you'll need to ask your doctor.
