Hi,

After thinking I had IBS for a few months, which goes hand-in-hand with Fibromyalgia, a condition I've had for the past 17 years, I casually mentioned to my GP - at an appointment for something not at all connected - about my symptoms and asked if he could prescribe something; the constant constipation then diarrhoea was getting a bit wearing. Fortunately,  I had a great GP, who thought it was worth running some tests and, three weeks later I was told I had bowel cancer. My immediate reaction was, nope, I've already had cancer (renal cancer 18 years ago), I shouldn't get it again, but here I am, with Stage 3 colon cancer. I am currently on a trial of Dostarlimab - an immunotherapy drug - I've had one infusion with the next three scheduled before surgery sometime in July.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. That seems so unfair to get cancer again - I wish they’d invent a chemo that blasts it once and for all. Good that your GP was on the ball and I hope you cope well with the immunotherapy drug - the early trials look to have had some promising results.

    Take care

  • I'm sorry you have cancer again. It really is unfair. I had cancer previously too, a neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas about 20 years before I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. We actually spent some time trying to track down whether this was a recurrence or a new primary.

I'm glad you got a chance to try one of the new immunotherapy drugs. I'm currently considered cancer free but if I get a recurrence I'll be pushing to do that too.

  • A cruel blow, to develop cancer again -but what excellent work by your GP . And cancer treatment has come on by leaps and bounds over the last 18 years so hopefully you can reap the benefits of 1) advantages of an early detection and 2) very rapidly advancing anti-cancer remedies. Slight smile
