Hi all,

I’ve recently been diagnosed with colon cancer. Not having treatment just yet as still waiting to see oncologist, they have requested another biopsy to determine what medication to give me.

A little bit of history.
Diagnosed with breast cancer 14 years ago, had chemo and radio along with Tamoxifen for 7 years until I started bleeding and then as a preventative decided to have a full hysterectomy.

Anyway back in early March I took myself to A&E after my stomach pains became very intense (have been suffering for about 12 months now) and had intensified over the last few months.

Saw a consultant who booked me a CT scan with contrast. Got a call from the hospital 3 days after asking me to go straight in as they thought part of my bowel had died and whilst talking to the consultant he said the scan revealed another issue which would need further investigation due to my history. Now you know when you get that feeling when someone is delivering bad news without actually delivering bad news….. that’s the vibe I got.

Anyway no dead bowel but PET Scan needed booking so had that the following week.

Went to see the consultant who said the radiologist had seen metastasis spread on my omental wall and pelvic area indicating cancer that had spread but no idea of primary so a biopsy was needed as well as endoscopy and colonoscopy which I had the following week this was 27 March.

I was discussed at the MDT meeting but biopsy had not come back as they wanted to do some staining to try to find where it had started.

Had another appointment 2 weeks later 14 April and was told they believe it started in the colon and is not curable.

Now, I may be a bit weird but I had set myself up for bad news so was prepared for this and to this day 21 April I still feel fine about it.

I did get a call last week to say the oncologist wants another biopsy to determine what medication I can have.

I am very aware that time is ticking by ( in my head anyway) and I just want to have my appointment so I know what it is and how bad it is.

I have no idea what to expect as this is a different cancer but would love advise on how to combat the fatigue I currently have, I don’t really have any other symptoms and they have not gotten any worse except for feeling tired and the odd day of nausea.

I am going away on holiday next week to Egypt and also wanted to know about travel insurance and if it’s needed at all.

Thanks for reading Relaxed

  • I'm sorry this is happening to you. The back and forth and not knowing is terrible. When my tumor was discovered, it took them about a month to diagnose my cancer as starting in the rectum. That was the worst month of all.

I can't advise on the fatigue as I never managed to handle it well myself. But do keep your hopes up. My tumor was initially inoperable but after radiation and chemo, it shrunk enough to be removed. I've seen people post here who initially had multiple metastises but were able to manage well with chemo. Colon cancers are typically slow growing and new treatments are coming available all the time.
