Chemo

Hi, I had surgery at he end of November for the removal of my large bowel, rectum and anus due to a stage 3 Lynch Tumour, apparently genetic which never misses a generation. It would appear I am the first to find this out. 2 lymph nodes out of 89 had traces of cancer but everything was taken away. CT scans have shown no spread.

My first round of Chemo starts soon for 3 months the drugs are Capox and Capecitabine and from the messages I have read I am really scared by it all.

would I be better with the 3 months of one week infusion two weeks of tablets then a weeks rest then start again or 6 months of infusions. I am so confused but I think it’s a case of the unknown scaring me.

  • Evening,

Are they giving you a choice of two different chemo paths?

I had three months of Capox; Day 1, Oxaliplatin infusions then two weeks of capecitabine then a rest week. Then repeat.

It isn’t too bad and you may find that you have no side effects or only minor ones.

I actually sort of enjoyed the infusion days. The nurses were a good laugh and everyone was very kind.

I’m sure it is as you say, the fear of the unknown.  Has your chemo nurse not told you what to expect?

  • Hi Paul, thanks for your reply, I have my assessment day tomorrow, then Chemo starts Wednesday so I guess I may get a few more answers then. I have read a few more messages and it’s just daunting because everyone is so different. I decided that whatever I was offered I would go for it to give myself a better chance. Fingers crossed

  • Absolutely, grab it with both hands!

I suffered a few side effects but other people having the same treatment didn’t suffer at all. I would imagine they will give you more information about possible side effects tomorrow. Remember, these are lists of what you MIGHT experience.

    Best of luck,  Paul
