I was feeling quite positive after a negative FIT test and now I've gone to the loo and there is dark blood in my stool. I'm freaking out. My husband died of bowel cancer seven years ago. I cannot believe the same fate awaits me.
I'm sorry to hear about your husband and sorry you are having this problem. Try not to panic.
There are many causes of blood in the stool besides cancer.
A negative FIT test is a positive sign.
Even if its cancer, this type is usually very slow growing. It is by no means, a death sentence. The majority of people survive and even thrive after diagnosis. There's no reason to believe you won't.
Go back to the doctor. I'm not sure how things work there but maybe you could get a screening colonoscopy to ease your mind. Even in the worst case, if it's cancer, we will be here to support you through it. You've got this.
