Hi there, I’ve been newly diagnosed with colon cancer. (Tumour in the sigmoid colon) reaching out so I don’t do my usual thing of shutting myself away and coping with it all by myself.

  • Hey there.  I’m in a similar situation I just yet have a diagnosis.  How are you doing?   I’ve spent most of the morning between working (from home) and sobbing.  I’d be interested to hear about your journey so far. Xx

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. Lots of support and advice on here from people who ‘get it’ so feel free to ask anything you like. Stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date - stick to this board and the Bowel Cancer UK site

    Take care

  • Thank you so much Karen. That’s great advice too. Was just trying to tell my mum the same (the Google is scary) not that she listened lol. Xx

  • Hiya, thank you for your reply. I’m on a bit of a rollercoaster too at the moment so it sounds similar to you. My diagnosis via scope wasn’t so much a surprise to me as I’ve been struggling (misdiagnosed as I’m only 43) for some time but, obvs still very sad for myself and family. Sending virtual strength to you too. We can smash this Hugging

  • Hello Pet,

You’re doing the right thing by reaching out. There are a lot of people who are going through it and many, many more who have been through it and come out smiling, and much wiser, the other side.

Youth is absolutely on your side here, be careful of looking at statistics about survival rates: they are largely very misleading as you need a much less generalised explanation of the figures.

Don’t try to cope on your own. It’s a scary journey made much more bearable if you have people who’ve done it helping you find your own path.

People are kind here, remember that! All the best, please keep talking xxx

    Nic

  • Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with a tumor in my sigmoid colon too. I will find out my treatment plan by Wednesday. It's good to talk and this forum has given me lots of reassurance

  • Thank you so much for you reply Nic.
That’s good advice about the survival rates, I’m a mum of 4 so I am very much planning to kick its butt! xx

  • Thank you for your reply. I’m so glad we all have this space. Keeping fingers crossed for Wednesday for you x

  • I had the same, albeit I expect I'm somewhat older (73).

I had surgery (High anterior resection of rectum) 19 July and I'm now 16 weeks post-op.

Fortunately there was no evidence of spread (lymph nodes clean and nothing on CT scan) I didn't need chemo or a stoma and are now fully recovered. Obviously they will continue to monitor me but so far so good.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. Glad to hear that the forum is helpful for you - we’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery and happy to help and support you through yours

    Take care
