Hello, i was diagnosed with bowel cancer which has spread to my liver.

I'm currently having chemo, I've had 2 sessions and I'm taking chemo tablets too. I'm scared. Lovely to meet others who understand and to support others too.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. Bowel cancer is very treatable even with spread to other organs and chemo can be very successful in this respect.
Hope the chemo is going well and please keep posting - we’re all at different stages of treatment and recovery on here and happy to help and support you through yours

    Take care

  • Hi Diane,

My mum has been diagnosed with the same as you. How are doing currently? I really hope things have improved for you and the chemo is working for you. We are just waiting on a treatment plan for chemo/radio/immunotherapy.

I would be keen to know your journey through this as we as a family just dont know what to be expecting. She has a 20mm tumour on her lower bowel which has spread to the liver with nodules on both sides of her liver.

Thank you and I hope you are doing ok.

  • Hi Oscar

Just had to jump on this post because i remember how the uncertainty felt 11 months ago when we were given this devastating news.
My Dad whos in his 70s had spread to liver both sides.
He had 4 rounds of chemo which shrunk the mets that much he was able to have surgery to cut all the liver mets out.
He still has to have his primary removed but all going in the right direction.
Obviously everyone is different and react differently to things but there is hope!

All the best to your Mum and i hope she goes on to get good shrinkage from the chemo and she is able to get to surgery or ablation

  • Hi Diane 22,

I’m really sorry to hear about your diagnosis and understand how scared you will be feeling. I was diagnosed with bowel cancer early in July 2024 at the age of 45 and it was - and still is - the most frightening and devastating thing I’ve been through.

My journey is a little different in that, although my tumour was quite large it - unbelievably - hadn’t spread to another organ. I had surgery in September and am now half way through chemotherapy - and constantly managing the ups and downs of the anxiety and fear about it all. I’ve also found the chemo much tougher than I had anticipated and this really knocked me back for a while - how are you finding it?

Reading about other people’s experiences on here has been really helpful at times, but my saving grace has been writing about my experiences to help me process what I’m feeling and just get those thoughts out of my head sometimes! I know writing’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but just having a rant to myself in the middle of the night with a pen and paper has really helped me as a coping strategy.

I’ve just started a blog on this site to try and share some of my thoughts about writing as a way to cope with some of it all, if you’re interested - there’s so much amazing support and advice on here I wanted to share something a bit different in case it resonates with anyone else. I wish you all the best with the next steps in your journey.

    Take care xx

  • Hi CxO

That is amazing news about your dad! I am really hoping for the best as my mum is the one who holds the family together and sees my 7yo every day.

She had a call today to confirm the source is the binary tract bile duct cancer so I am not sure how much this changes things but Google does not give the best statistics so our heads are all over the place. We have a meeting on Wednesday with the doctor and her macmillan nurses.

What are your dads rounds of chemo like? Im so glad its helped him!
