I am recovering at home from just having had an Extended right hecolectomy. Surgery went well and I am

due to meet my oncologist next week to discuss chemo.

Anything good to input would be super please, not in the mindset for anything negative atm.

many thanks,

J

  • Hi Jacqui

I had an anterior resection in November 2017 to remove a colorectal tumour....4 hour op....5 days in hospital...back to work 9 weeks later...no chemo luckily ....recovery was pretty straightforward....little niggles afterwards...constipation, changes in pooing intervals...more frequent...  nothing that couldn't be easily tolerated....discharged from Oncology in December 2022...

Take a notebook to your meeting with the oncology team ....have questions ready, discuss anti-emetics...pain meds...side effects...aftercare...contact emails and phone numbers for out of hours support.

    Take care

  • Hi J,

In a similar situation. Right hemicolectomy 5 weeks ago. All seems fine. Adjuvant chemo starts on Thursday, 4 rounds and I’m a bit worried but absolutely ready to take this on Sunglasses

  • Thank you so much, that is so helpful - wishing you only wonderful things in your life from now!

  • Thank you so much for your reply - positivity is def the way to go!

lots of luck and check out my previous reply about your chemical.

  • Welcome ,  I'm fairly new too. Also had right hemicolectomy this year, where biopsies (& 35cm disease) taken  and confirmed BC with lymph node involvement so also had to have chemo due to that. I finished it in June & think you can read rest in my profile ( if done it right!). Been the toughest of years but now out the other side. On ' very close surveillance ' for next 4 years & will never now fully relax I know, we're certainly not the person we were before, but there's many positives also and for me, I'm way happier day to day as no longer tolerate nonsense (!), and eternally grateful for amazing care received when needed it most. Sure you'll find the same, take all the support offered (& medication!), be kind to yourself always and know this treatment works. Keep in touch, healing thoughts xx

  • Thank you so much!
