Diagnosed with cancer in the ascending part of the colon on 3rd Oct. Operation on 14th Oct to remove section of Colon and reconnect. Hospital time will be up to a week, then at home for recuperation up to five weeks. Have a good circle of personal friends and those I know through volunteering. Everyone has been really kind, often sharing that they have had a cancer journey or similar, and that they are now cancer free. It does scare me, the fear through many years is getting cancer. The consultant tells me it is treatable, and they need the results of the op to decide next steps. Feel supported, worried for my wife of 44 years, however we are both calm. I research the topic and want to get as much info as possible, but know that at this stage so much depends on test results to come. Many thoughts in my head, can’t think of much else, trying to stay positive and a support for wife and family. Haven’t fully told grandchildren, they know Granpa has to go to hospital for a few days, all rest of family know.
Hi there, I'm new too to the club we never hoped we'd join! I have today managed to upload my 'story' to my profile (I think!) & added strange back photo of the wig I bought during chemo that wasn't required as with BC chemo it doesn't fall out, just thins!! Some of my experience this year is similar to yours. An awful lot to take in for you and being 'strong' for our loved ones when we don't feel that always is tough I know. Keeping brace in front of my 2 late teens was the hardest as there was so much fear for us all, but I'm now cancer free too, so there is great hope Capt! Here to listen, I'm not an expert but this year know more than ever before sadly about thus personally, so happy to help if can & my profile may help too? Take good care & be kind to yourself xx
Thanks. I’m retired, and have found friends around to be really supportive and caring. Two of my three daughters are medical and wonderfully helpful. Feeling blessed.
I should add op was successful, about to start chemo
Well done Capt Noglos . You sound very upbeat and hope the next stage of treatment goes smoothly for you .
