Hi there,
My aunty has stage 4 bowel cancer spread to liver. She has been poorly and in pain so oncologist booked urgent scan after 4th cycle. (FOLFOX) CEA markers from blood results are 500 and scan shows the chemo hasn’t worked. So they will start a second line of treatment.
Has anyone else had failed first line of treatment But successful second line of treatment?
and CEA MARKERS doesn’t necessarily mean bad news about cancer right? It can be an indication of inflammation isn’t it?
wondered if there’s any relatable stories and hope. Thank you
Hi Gem2023 There has been a post started recently as there have been a few posts about liver mets so I’ve added a link to the post below
Managing a spread to the liver !
Inflammation can cause a rise in CEA level but I think it’s more likely a sign that the first line chemo isn’t working but it will hopefully start to come down once she starts the second line treatment.
Im afraid I don’t have personal experience of stage 4 but I hope some of the posts on the link above are helpful?
Take care
Karen x
Hi Gem2023,
I have S4 bowel cancer which has spread to my para-aortic lymph nodes and bones. I am not on any active treatment other than a drug to help maintain bone density. My last CEA markers test was 83 so, hopefully, your aunty’s count may begin to fall with the second line of treatment.
Wishing her all the best.
Stay strong.
