Worried

Hi

I'm not really sure if I'm in the right place but I could really use some advice if possible.

My Mum is 73yrs and is a brain annuerysm survivor. She currently lives in a neurological care home.

She's also been diagnosed with an aortic annuerysm in the past which is regularly monitored with ultrasound and surgery not an option.

She's recently had a lung and abdomen ct scan with contrast on a 2 week pathway after a lung nodule was found on a chest xray. It appears that a referral was put in to the colorectal department following the scan and I've been informed that she's got an appointment next week to see a consultant from Gastroenterology and she has to bring her next of kin to the appointment.

Obviously I'm now very worried.

She's had 2 positive fit tests in the last 12 months but due to mum's condition she is unable to tolerate a colonoscopy.

I don't want to jump to all manner of conclusions but I am worried.

Any advice or reassurance would be greatly received thank you.

  • Hi ,

Bringing you (or another next of kin) seems sensible as its very easy to misunderstand what is being said or miss something important when it's just you.  My husband came with me and was able to point out where I'd misunderstood something I was told due to me being in a panic.

I hope it goes well for you both next week.

    Best wishes

  • Hi  The hospital sounds to have concerns that they want to discuss with your mum and, as Cerys says, it’s always better to have a second pair of ears and a pen and paper there. It wouldn’t be helpful for us to try and second guess what they want to discuss but please ring the support desk on the number below if you would like to chat to someone?

Take care and please let us know how you get on?

  • Thank you both so much.

Yes I'll take a notebook and pen.

    • Her 1:1 from the care home will be there too as Mum is in a wheelchair
