Evening,

I’m struggling with anxiety just now.

I had a consultation at the hospital on Monday and they found a rectal tumour.

I am booked in for a colonoscopy next Friday.

Problem is I have pressure on my right side and cramping and spasms in my lower abdomen.(which has just woken me)

Just feel like I can feel the cancer spreading.

I have been trying breathing exercises and yoga.

Any other advice to get me through this week?

Any advice great fully received.

  • I tell myself there are probably 100 different possibilities and some will be positive. Also I  do not want to waste time being too sad and stressed. But if you need to grieve the news, allow yourself to,  but perhaps put a time limit on it. Important to let it out. But not be swallowed up by it.

What works for me though, may not work for you. I think I may have some denial. Which I am glad of really.

Sending you all the best wishes. xxxx

  • Dear Cyclone,

Thank you for your reply. Time limit on feeling like this sounds a good strategy.

I have managed to cope and come out the other side dealing with Breast Cancer twice.

This has just knocked me for six and put anxiety into overdrive, which is probably making my symptoms worse.

    Wishing you a good day.Xx

  • Wow 3rd time for you. That would be difficult. Cannot imagine.

The best of wishes for you.

  • Hi

The thought of cancer spreading is very common in these pages as people await the staging results .

A lot of people describe the symptoms you have described with a rectal tumour so please don’t think it means a spread at this stage .

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the board. I think we can all remember how stressful the waiting for tests, results, meetings is but once you have the full picture and a treatment plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better.

Bowel cancer is notoriously slow growing but very treatable and if you click on people names then their profile page may show their treatment to date. I think we all find that stress causes a jittery and upset tummy and if you were stressing about something non medical then you’d probably think no more of it?

I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2016 and, with hindsight, I’d probably had symptoms for a couple of years but I went through treatment and I’ve been ‘no evidence of disease’ since.

Hope the colonoscopy goes ok and please keep us updated?

    Take care
