Hi everyone, have been diagnosed today and have been offered surgery on Friday. It’s all so overwhelming!

  • Hi

Just want to welcome you to the forum .
That’s all moving so fast for you but if there is a bed free just now all the better . What we notice on the forum once the winter viruses hit and beds become like gold dust,  lots of proposed surgery gets cancelled . So whilst it’s fast it’s good they can fit it in .

Others will be along to talk you through the surgery . Do you know what procedure you are having ?

    Take care ,

  • Hi  and a warm welcome from me too. A lot of people find the weeks between diagnosis and treatment starting very stressful but, as Court says, if there is a bed free then the sooner the better. I can imagine you’re feeling pretty shell shocked at the moment but if there’s anything you’d like to ask then please do. I’ve attached a booklet about the operation and things to remember to take with you - an extra long charging cable is a must.

  • Good morning,

I’m also new but a month post op. I was given my diagnosis from CT scan on the Friday (I was admitted to hospital with appendicitis) and had emergency surgery on the Monday. My main advice would be, ask for pain relief regularly, once in pain it takes a while to work.

if you have any questions please ask.

  • Hi, thank you for your reply. I had part of the right side of my bowel removed. I’m glad it’s been done quickly but I’m now anxious about what they might find once they’ve analysed the tumour!

  • Thank you! Yes, it’s good to have got it done but now got the wait to find out if I need further treatment Disappointed

  • Hi, thank you for your reply. How are you feeling now? When does the pain and soreness from the operation go away? Have you found out if you need further treatment? Sorry for all the questions!

  • I’m recovering well from the operation. I sometimes get a little pain but not very often (I’m 5 weeks post op tomorrow). I’ve not really taken anything for pain since two weeks post op. I had a grade 3 tumour (10 by 8 cm) in the right side of the bowel so I’m currently awaiting an appointment with the consultant to talk about starting chemotherapy.

Hope your surgery went well and you aren’t in too much pain.
