My husband is recovering from having a tumour removed, he had no symptoms, even the FIT tests were negative, the doctor thought it was a hiatus hernia, which was confirmed with an endoscopy but he was really unwell, couldn't eat or barely drink anything for weeks and seriously bad diarrhoea for the past couple of weeks, as he was losing weight he had a CT scan, which showed lesions in his colon. he was booked in for a coloscopy next week, this was change to an appointment on Monday with the consultant.
This has all happened so fast, we had the appointment with the consultant on Monday morning and they dropped the bombshell, he has a blockage that it had spread to his liver. He was admitted to the hospital and due to have the op on Tuesday, after a second CT scan the surgical team had a meeting to discuss the way forward, and postponed the op until Wednesday, due to the risk of the blockage rupturing he was first on the list.
He has been in ICU the past 2 days, hoping he will be transferred to the ward today, he looks and feels so much better which is a relief for both of us.
I know the old saying "no news is good news" but apart from the nurse phoning me on Wednesday after the op to say they had removed the tumour we've not heard anything, is this normal?
Like everyone else, this is all new to me and I don't know what to expect.
Wishing everyone who is gong through this love and hope. x
Hi RNE and welcome to the board. Gosh you’ve had a stressful week haven’t you? It’s good to hear that the tumour has been removed and it will have been sent off to the lab for testing. The histology report that they then issue will determine the next steps - if there is spread to lymph nodes then there may be follow up chemo recommended - the report can take a couple of weeks to come back so hopefully your hubby will be recovering at home by then.
The spread to liver will be discussed by the team and then they will meet to discuss the next stage with you. I’ve attached a booklet below which covers bowel cancer with spread to other organs which may be helpful?

Hope hubby continues to recover well and the consultant will be able to discuss the next step with him soon but for now he needs to focus on his recovery and trying to put a bit of weight back on ready for the next step
Take care
