Hi I'm 105 kg and 5"10 and they want me to take 2800mg twice a day.of capecitabine so 5600mg a day.

  • Hi

Please phone your chemo helpline . You should have been given a number .
I can not remember my mum’s dose and don’t want to creat doubt but it’s a drug that requires the dose to be correct for the contraindications.

It seems higher than the guidelines but your team will know .

If you can’t get them please phone our helpline .

0808 808 0000 and they will get someone to talk it through with you .

If that fails depending on your location phone the out of hours service .

All hospitals have on call oncologist who can check this out for you but it is important for you to get this sorted .

Please reach out to your team .

    Take care ,

    Court

  • Hi  As Court says you need to check this out with your chemo helpline. It maybe that the dosage is a total of 2800 taken over the day so 1400 morning and 1400 evening?

  • Hi there my weight was 12 st + when I started on the same chemo (now in session 6 of 8) and about similar height ( ok we’re not twins) as you’re about 16.5 stones.
As I understand it the dosage takes into account your body weight and other aspects

For my height and weight my initial dosage was 5,000 mg per day taken in 2 x 2,500 (5x 500mg) but on about session 4 it had to be reduced to 4,000 mg per day to help with the liver function

So I would say that your dosage would be about right from this layman’s point of view. BUT if you have any doubts I would recommend that you talk to your specialist nurse or McMillan nurses who I have found are happy to give you whatever time you need and any reassurance.
