Hello

I hope everyone is ok, sending hugs and positive vibes to you all! Just thought I'd share an update on my journey. I've had my appointment with the oncologist, confirmed I'll be having chemoradiotherapy , went through all the side effects in great detail which left my head spinning, and I think was a factor in me fainting when they tried to take bloods Grin several cups of tea and water later my blood pressure had recovered enough for them to try again and actually get some blood out. Am now under instructions to eat and drink well before bloods. I'm starting treatment at Christie's on 1 November until 5 December. I'm eager to get started but nervous about the side effects, obviously I have no idea how I will feel. Any input from your own experiences would be helpful to read!

Also, the advanced practitioner at my doctor's has recommended I try to eat a low inflammatory diet ie avoiding gluten, sugar, red meat and dairy, to give my gut the best chance of coping with the treatment/fighting the cancer. . Has anyone else tried this and do you think it has helped with how you feel during treatment?

Thank you for listening Pray

  • Hi Squashable and it’s good to hear from you again. Hope you’re feeling a bit better now you have a plan in place - you’ll be well looked after at Christie’s.

Everyone reacts differently to chemo so it’s hard to predict how you’ll feel. Just take it one day at a time and tick those weeks off. I wasn’t given any dietary advice although my friend was told to avoid steak?! I’ve attached a link to a post that we started about chemo. Yes the side effects sound scary but there are lots of pills and potions to combat them so keep talking to your team.
