Hi. I have never joined groups before so I'm not sure I doing this right but I have recently been diagnosed with colon cancer which has spread to my liver. I'm waiting to see cancer consultant this week to find out what pathway I'm on. I have been told I will be having 6 bouts of chemo and if all goes well this will be followed by surgery. The finer details will hopefully be discussed this week. It's been such a shock as I am still fit and living life as normal. The cancer was detected following bowel screening programme.
Hi Red Rose I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had a spread to your liver. I had a similar experience last year, but my local hospital referred me to the nearest liver specialist, and they recommended a liver resection. I have no idea why some hospitals offer chemo first, or not, as in my case! It would be good if there was a standard procedure for things like this. I wish you luck with your chemo and for the future.
I’m glad that helped even a little. Just a word of caution though. Not having been offered chemo before surgery, I can only speak from personal experience, but my cancer spread again in the liver. I have since had chemo, which proved to be unsuccessful, and am having another resection next week. I asked why I wasn’t offered mop up chemo the first time and was told it wasn’t necessary! I’m not trying to frighten or worry you. I hope this means you can ask more questions to suit your own needs. Wishing you all the best.
Hi Red Rose
Welcome to the forum . You are most definitely doing it right . I not big on social media but despite that I have been here for around 13 years . My mum’s diagnosis brought me her as she was picked up on one of the first bowel screening programs rolled out in our area back in 2009 . Devastated to discover despite being fit and healthy she had a spread to her liver . However being fit stood her in good stead for treatment .
If you click on my user name you can read how they managed her spread to her liver . She had a large resection back in 2010 and her liver remains clear . She is however 14 years later back in treatment for a spread to her lung but only has one targeted drug . It’s very manageable. Seeing how her team have managed to treat it like a chronic condition has been incredible .
Hope you get a great response to chemo . Lots of shrinkage and they do review everything and add in other techniques where possible. All have criteria . Some people stay on maintenance chemo , others go to surgery and some are suitable for radio frequency ablation .
Best foot forward as my mum likes to say .

I am pleased I joined this group. Reading other peoples experiences has give me hope and makes me realise it's normal to think and feel like i do....so thank you.
Hi Lippy Chick
Good luck with your surgery.
I’ll be thinking of you.
My cancer was different, I was frightened then decided it was me against it and it had to be removed by a surgeon.
Get it in the bin.
Any bowel control problems afterwards will settle. There’s lots of support
best wishes
Ann
