4 weeks post op, I had a right hemi.
Recovery is going well so far, starting to miss the social side of work. Trying to keep busy.
My treatment has been speedy, diagnosed on the 23rd August, not sure if I have begun to process it all yet !
What I have struggled with is that I had no symptoms at all, I was actually feeling fit & healthy…
I am now waiting for my pathology results, which is making me feel anxious, not knowing what’s next.
Thought it would be great to talk to others that are going through similar & support each other.
Hi Cmck and a warm welcome to the board. Sounds like your team have been on the ball and hopefully your pathology results will be through very soon - think mine took a couple of weeks but that was nearly 7 years ago! You could maybe think about going back to work on a phased return in a couple of weeks if you feel up to it and your team is happy for you to do that?
You may find the enormity of what you’ve been through hits you a bit later so I’ve popped a link to a really good paper below - it might not feel relevant yet but you can keep it for later down the line?
Everyone on here is at different stages of treatment and recovery so I’m glad you’ve joined us and feel free to ask anything or just join in the chats
Take care
Karen x
Hello, I had a right hemi a week ago today! Still feeling quite sore and very weak, plus not enjoying injecting myself, but basically seem to be making a good recovery. Your treatment was amazingly quick. I was diagnosed early in August and was quite surprised how fast things happened after that, particularly given all the news there's been recently about enormous waiting lists. I'm also nervous about the pathology results - hope you get yours soon and that your news will be good. Best wishes, Karen.
This could be me! 3 weeks post op yesterday. Exactly the same, colonoscopy on August 20th, right hemicolectomy on 21st September. No symptoms at all, only picked up by a routine blood test finding low iron. Apparently my tumour was the size of a very large grapefruit and no one could believe that I had no symptoms!
My follow up isn’t until 21st November, which is leaving me plenty of time to feel anxious, I’m typically a pretty positive person but this diagnosis has me at odds with my optimism!
Hooe your recovery goes well .
Hi Cmck and Hooks230, these right side tumours apparently don't produce any symptoms till a late stage, so you were both lucky that you were diagnosed before having symptoms. I should think this means your chances of being clear now are pretty good. I did have some symptoms, though it was a nasty shock to find out what they added up to! Good luck with the waiting and hope your results will be good when you get them.
Thanks for your message, I do struggle to get my head around it all, how you can feel so well then be told you have cancer.
Im hesitant about my appointment on Friday, trying to guess what they are going to tell me! What does not help me is googling, I try to stay off there, makes me more anxious
I find this helps me, when you can relate to others going through similar. :)
I had a right hemicolectomy on Oct 5th, all went well, no need for a stoma (thank goodness), and a letter came just now saying I have an appointment in outpatients on the 30th. Presumably this will be to tell me the pathology results and whether I need further treatment. At the moment I feel like I'd rather not know so soon, would like more time to recover before facing possibly more ordeals.
