I’m a bit scared that writing about it will make it more real but I also think it’s the right time to say hello
its been a whirlwind. I’m 42 and thought I was super healthy, vegan, exercising 4 times a week. Even the night before this happened I was playing tennis with my husband.
i woke up the next morning with severe abdominal pain and couldn’t keep any food down. I ended up in a&e the next day and they ruled out anything gynaecology and sent me home with ibs medication. The next day it was even worse and I ended up back in a&e, this time they did a ct scan and saw that my bowel was completely blocked and everything was swollen.
I had surgery the next day and when I woke up the consultant explained that they had not been able to remove it as it was attached to my liver and they would need a liver specialist from London. So they patched me up with a stoma.
2 weeks later they had an appointment with the liver specialist so I went in again for the second surgery. This time when I woke up the consultatant said it had been successful and my stoma was reversed. I’ve been recovering at home watching only murders in the building and the pain has subsided.
I have my result’s meeting on Monday which I’m terrified about but also know it will be good to have a plan and know what to expect.
it’s all been so fast and so unexpected. I don’t think it will really hit home until Monday. I’m in a trauma survival mode at the moment.
anyway, that’s me
Welcome ToriButtons .
We totally understand it’s hard to post for the first time , however I hope it gets easier to post and you find support here .
Such trauma associated with the sudden onset . No wonder you feel overwhelmed. But I am delighted to see you are safely through both surgeries and recovering with your tv schedule !
I think a lot of fit people find being diagnosed with bowel cancer so hard to process but we used to have a cancer biology lecturer who explained it was merely a mutation on part of the DNA for some people .
Hope the TV is working it’s wonders on you and helping with your recovery .

Hi ToriButtons
It sounds like quite a ride you've been on but good to read that your 2nd surgery was successful.
My surgery saw me doing my 1st ever "boxset binge". Aren't we lucky to live in the modern day with so much choice.
I hope Monday goes well. I found taking someone in with me for the first couple of appointments was helpful for note taking, for nudging me to ask the questions I had and to be able to talk things through with afterwards.
