High all
i am 6 weeks after a sigmoid colon resection which thankfully all went well. The stage 3 cancer ( I called him Colin) was removed but a residue was found in 1 of the 4 lymph nodes removed.
I am scheduled to start chemo next week but I am one of the lucky 3% with a DPD defiency. Therefore my first cycle dose will be a 50% dose to monitor toxicity.
can anyone in my situation give me their experience of cycle 1 given this set of parameters, I’m having xelox intravenous and then pills.
thanks

Hi Tim,
I also had a sigmoid resection with stage 3 bowel cancer in December 2020 with a DPD deficiency. My first cycle was at 50% then they gradually increased it over a few weeks, my tolerance was 65% and very effective. Sadly my cancer spread to the pelvis in February 2022 so I had to have further surgery with chemotherapy tablets and radiotherapy for 6 weeks. There is hope I’m still in remission and fighting fit so always have hope. I spent my hospital days dancing round the ward with the doctors, nurses patients and my fleet of Carebears. I hope this helps, you’re not alone and you can do this it’s taken me a while to come on here call it PTSD but I managed by disconnecting myself from the cancer and taking each day as it come. I named my chemo pump and made friends with it I mean it was saving my life only right we should be besties throughout but you do whatever gets you through this and know we’re all here right with you always!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
