Hi this time last year I had a full hysterectomy due to having cancer of the womb, Yesterday I got my test results back telling me that I have lynch syndrome, I sort of knew that I had when they said there was a mutation and that I needed to be tested for this, anyway now I’ve had to tell my children that they need to be tested and alike. I know now that I have an increased risk of having cancer again now and I’m just wondering( well I’m not sure really ) how long it takes to come back I suppose, I feel like I’m a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off, I know it may never come back ( but I’m pretty certain that it will ) I feel like I’m just struggling with this at the moment.
Hi Tia
It’s a lot to process for sure . Have you reached out to lynch association yet ? One of our previous members was very involved with this and helped many people in the early stages of being diagnosed find more solid ground .
Macmillan has also linked in with Bupa to offer six free counselling sessions . The helpline has the information on 0808 808 0000.
A different set of circumstances but similar in terms of dealing with future possible tumours is the stage 4 situation . One thing that helped my mum was the robust scanning that gave her a great safety net and saved her life twice . It was only went she was actually discharged and she had a further recurrence that got away a bit further that she hit more of a wall . Up to that point the robust scanning was picking tumours up at 2 mm and removing them after observation at a point whilst it was manageable and easily dealt with .
Perhaps finding more about the protocol to see how they will keep a close eye on you might also help .
Take care ,
