What to do?

I am struggling as to what to do, as I'm still waiting for confirmation from the biopsy, waiting for a CT scan!!! I am having therapy and the therapist is also a naturopathic therapist, and has suggested some reading material, which is not a issue, but I don't want to do anything that will compromise and increase conflict causing more stress. I'm not sure what to do, as I'm still waiting.

I still feel extremely overwhelmed and scared. Sorry, I hope this is common.

  • Hi, I think what you are going through is probably normal for people in our position, it's certainly just what I have felt since I was told they found "abnormalities", which was 2 weeks ago.

If it's any help, I found I can escape from the horrible frightening feelings for a while by doing something that needs concentration, like a crossword or sudoku, or watching a really gripping drama. Perhaps it also helps a little just to know that we aren't being particularly feeble in our reaction and there are quite a few of us going through the same ordeal and reacting in the same way.

  • Hi  Yes it’s totally normal and I’m afraid this first couple of weeks is very stressful but all you can do is try and distract your mind and remember that thoughts are not facts. Please give the support desk a ring? Kakadu said they were very nice and helpful and they may have some good advice for you?

    Take care

  • Hi

I think you are being very wise to stay with information that has been pulled together from people with experience in this specialty.

What is required of you today to get through today . Sometimes that’s more than enough to be getting on with .

    Take care ,

  • Hi TreeHugger29. I had to take time off work a few years ago due to stress and was told about various relaxation techniques (essentially meditation). I was sceptical at first but found breathing exercises particularly helpful in reducing anxiety levels. I reverted to these techniques when diagnosed with bowel cancer to help me deal with the uncertainty such a diagnosis brings.. (It must work as US Navy SEALS are trained in the box breathing technique.)

Has your therapist recommended ‘Breath’ by James Nestor.? That book and the Insight Timer app have helped me a lot in dealing with stressful and scary events in my life.

Hope the biopsy results and CT scan bring good news.

  • Thank you for your words of encouragement. No, my therapist is Naturopath as well, so has suggested some reading matter, but I can't seem to focus on the books. I will look into your suggestions. I do Tapping to release anxiety, so will try and find a meditation group.

    Thank you again.
