I was diagnosed with a tumour at my colonoscopy & sent for a CT scan last Friday I heard on Monday this week that the biopsy confirmed cancer. OnThursday (24th) the CT results confirmed that it has stayed in the bowel and hasn’t spread. While feel relieved I suffer with IBS and I’m now second guessing every twinge an trip to the loo.
Hi HBoo I’m sorry to hear of your recent cancer diagnosis. I’m glad that at least you can feel some relief that is hasn’t spread. As others will tell you, bowel cancer is very slow growing, and very treatable. When is your next appointment? I think after my ct scan I was referred to a consultant. It was four years ago, but I’m pretty sure it was him that then ordered an mri, and a pet scan. Once all of the results came back I was discussed at the multi disciplinary team meeting and a plan was made. You’ll probably find that the next few weeks will be a bit of a whirlwind, but that’s a good thing, so try not to worry. Come on here as often as you want/need to. Wishing you all the best and sending a big hug.
Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long for an appointment with the surgical team. I had chemotherapy tablets alongside radiotherapy and then a three month wait before surgery. What your team wille considering is where your tumour is located, and what size it is. Some people have surgery first and chemo afterwards. They’ll talk you through their treatment plan, and you get to decide if you want to go ahead. Fingers crossed your appointment comes through after the bank holiday.
Hello HBoo
I can empathise with you. Every twinge I had I was concerned it was cancer. The colonoscopy prep upset my bowels so you may find the same
It may help to eat low fibre food until things settle.
Once you know your treatment you will have something to focus on and build your energy levels up.
Mindfulness/meditation apps are good for head space
I was straight the theatre no chemo or radiation for me.
Your treatment will be the best for you

Hi I'm new to all this never thought I'd be writing on a forum like this. I'm 43 and was diagnosed last week. I had been having bowel problems for few years had polyps removed few year ago had a baby 21 months ago and last 9 months my symptoms persistent I have a history of eating disorder so everyone was telling me it was stress and basically in my head but I knew something wasn't right so colonoscopy was done and cancer found in bowel tissue now awaiting scans next week but since diagnosed I've went from not getting to toilet in time going 4/6 times a day to absolutely nothing and now being sick. Is this normal. My family telling me it nerves but it doesn't feel right but is it in my head as it just after diagnosed got worse like this. I'm so confused. X
Hi DTel
I can’t tell you how many people go through this . I do think anxiety has a big part to play .
Glad you joined in the forum and a warm welcome despite the circumstances. We are here to support you . This is an incredibly hard part as they pull all the information together but a treatment plan seems to help considerably and puts some structure around finding a way through this .
Take care ,

Hi DTel
im so sorry that you’ve had this shock it is a lot to process
Being young and with a young family you must be very busy
Being sick without bowel movements is concerning. If you were loose before but now that’s stopped I think a phone call to your GP or the telephone number left on your colonoscopy form could be helpful
If you’re now having bowel movements then things are moving in the right direction but if you are not passing stools liquid or not and being sick you will need to be checked
Stress and anxiety has a terrible affect on our bodies. I had pain everywhere and after the colonoscopy my bowel was really unhappy about that prep I took. It actually made me sick. Yuck. It’s worth it yes but sadly our bowels do not like being upset and can take a while to settle
Take care

Hi thank you all. I ended up being sent to a n e today they thought maybe blockage. Although xray didn't exactly show that they weren't happy with it so got ct scan done earlier just need mri scan on Friday now for decision on treatment plan. The ct scan was positive in that it showed cancer hadn't spread from rectum to front however did pick up enlarged lymph nodes in chest and lungs. Hopefully find out more after mri scan. I'm home with laxatives as they said "disease" in rectum obstructing things xx
