Hi all. My chemo journey is at a halt as my magnesium, potassium and haemoglobin are all too low. I’ve had a blood transfusion and magnesium   Infusion. Hopefully can get back on track.

  • Hi Faloola. My chemo dropped my magnesium levels, not enough to require an infusion, but I was given information on magnesium heavy foods and now take a magnesium supplement daily. It also obliterated my Vitamin D levels, so much so I had to a course of tablets containing 50,000 International Units that I took for six weeks,  think the standard supplement is about 1,000 IU - I take one of those daily too.

Hope you get back on track asap.

    All the best.

  • Hi

How are you feeling after the infusions ? Mum had to get a magnesium infusion on Cetuximab. It seems to be a bit of a culprit!

On chemo mum’s potassium dropped . She felt really sick with it . It sounds benign but it was her worst side effect. Wobbly legs and even confusion she had to go into hospital to get hydrated and potassium but after that she levelled out with supplements.

Its not easy when the electrolytes are knocked off and treatment seems to cause it for some people .

I do hope you are starting to feel more like your old self and get your plan back on track . The break does you good and I use to say to mum  it’s a marathon not a sprint in a stage 4 setting so taking the time to rebalance everything is wise .

I need to pay more attention to her diet for magnesium. We increased certain nuts and she had a marginal improvement but with the chaos of life have not paid enough attention over recent weeks . That’s this weeks focus !!!

That was some dose of vitamin D ! I have spoken with a girl who has a gastric sleeve and had to get a large dose of vitamin D . I did not realise they monitored it !

Hope you are doing well .
