Hi folks,

I’m going in for a ‘discussion’ tomorrow after a colonoscopy discovered what is believed to be cancer. Since then I’ve had a MRI and CT Scan.
in your experience how soon after these discussions does treatment usually start.
thanks x

  • I got diagnosed 20/06/23 my treatment will start 4/9/23

    Hope yours is quicker

  • I was diagnosed via a colonoscopy on 5 July 2022, had CT/MRI, during the following week, met with surgeon on 19 July 22, surgery 27 July 22, then chemo started 26 September, 22 discharged from Oncology back to coleractal nurses Feb 23 following post chemo CT/ blood tests for 5 year surveillance. Had 1st year colonoscopy and bloods, all good, so next will be CT and bloods in Jan 24 . I went straight to surgery following diagnosis and scans but you may be offered chemo/radiotherapy before surgery. I also did not have a stoma although pree surgery I was measdured for one. All my treatment was completed by our marvellous NHS. Wishing you all the best for your treatment plan xx

  • I had colonoscopy, CT and MRI. My team meet Fridays to discuss next steps and they decided Ultra Sound images endoscopy to check the best treatment for me.
This caused longer than I liked. I phoned my colorectal nurses for reassurance and to make sure I hadn’t been forgotten

June was my Colonoscopy and my operation was August 4th.

They will decide the best treatment plan for you and hopefully tomorrow they’ll tell you their treatment for you.

Some are chemo and radiation first, some straight in for op, some op then chemo it depends on exactly where it is.
    Good luck

    sending you a hug

  • In 2019 I had colonoscopy 11th june ct 17th mri 18th.then straight to a surgeon on 26th june.then because I agreed to a panproctocolectomy there was no mdt meeting and I had the surgery on july 26th,followed by chemo starting in sept.

Im only saying all this to show that everyone goes down a different route .

    All the best

    Kath

  • Hope you got on ok today,  ? I was diagnosed rectal cancer at a colonoscopy on 1st Feb, CT and MRI a week later, then MDT, operation on 4 March, LAR and TME. Chemo started 1 May as they have to let you heal. I was marked for stomas, but not needed. Most paths seem to be different as each person is different.

  • Thank you for your reply.  I wish you good health.

  • The hug arrived safe and sound. Thank you. I wish hope your recovery goes well. I’m sending a hug in return.

  • Thank you. I think you are right I’m finding everyone’s journey appears to be unique. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  • I got on pretty good. Or at least i feared it would be much worse. I’m having surgery in 6 weeks. Thanks for you reply and best of luck with your recovery.

  • That’s good news. Now you have something to look towards getting that in the bin

    Take care of yourself.
    Best Wishes
