Hi all, I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
back in February this year I was diagnosed with a blood cancer (Polycythemia vera) lo and behold 3 weeks later I was also diagnosed with bowel cancer. My chemotherapy for the blood cancer has been put on hold whilst the urgency of the bowel cancer was being addressed. In May I had surgery for the bowel cancer which was deemed to be successful but a biopsy on removed lymph nodes did show a need for chemotherapy which I shall be beginning in a few weeks time.
I would like to ask if anybody out there has had a similar situation and if so to give me some idea as to how things may progress.
kind regards. - Daniel
Welcome to the forum bibbia
We have unfortunately had other people who have discovered two different cancers at the same time with different treatments. Their specialist and MDT have prioritised the most pressing need first and commenced treatment then moved to deal with the other treatment. It really depends on the two primaries as well as sometimes they have been able to use a compatible chemotherapy . However slowly but surely they work through it one step at a time .
We are most definitely here to support you . Of late off the top of my head we had a lady with a breast cancer and a man who had prostate cancer . The lady did come back and let us know she was through both and doing well .
It’s a lot to process .

Thank you so much.
As I am new to the terminology and process’s with regard to cancer and its treatments I appreciate any guidance. As you have mentioned it does appear that my bowel cancer has been prioritised and my blood cancer placed on the back burner.
I shall keep the forum updated.
Kind Regards - Daniel
I think also with bowel cancer there is a window of opportunity to give chemotherapy after surgery and when that passes the research seems to suggest less efficacy so the need to press ahead with it in a timely manner . There is a recovery period allowed though .
It’s a steep learning curve but the specialist do communicate with each other . Do you know how many cycles of treatment you are going to have ?

I think that it ‘s 6 months treatment based around 3 weekly cycles ( 2 weeks on / 1 week recovery. The chemo drugs are Oxaliplatin infusions and Capecitabine tablets, I shall be starting it in a few weeks.
I have been told that the chemotherapy in my case is due to one lymph node proving positive and on the cusp of metastasising and that it is a ‘mopping up’ procedure. Is this normal?
Thanks again. - Daniel
Absolutely normal and gets good outcomes .
Thats good they caught it at this staging and lots of people here have gone through this and doing very well .
There are plenty people here who could talk you through any aspect of chemo /treatment as it arises .
They will take really good care of you .

I start my first chemo drip and followed by 14 days of medicine to eat at home after meals.
Take plenty of water always all the time even while taking drip. Don't worry about how many you need to you for V
After 10 days I always felt ok as normal after the drip
That's where I scheduled all my work like shopping and my work shifts
Then before drip again 10 days of bed rest.
Never let your mind be occupied with bad thoughts.
Take it like a fever which should get well after a few days.
I had my chemo
January February March April
2 cycle I did ok
Third was bad and forth I left with no energy to take it...
So be ready for it in advance...
