Hi all
i had surgery just under 3 weeks ago and just getting used to the stoma
being vegetarian and food limitations I was wondering how others managed with different food options
cheesy mash I’m getting tired of lol
best wishes all
I’m sorry that I don’t have any bright ideas, just wanted to bump your post up. I found it tricky enough being a meat eater. I only ate chicken back then. I eat more vegetarian food now, but am struggling to think of low fibre recipes. Eggs and potatoes, and bread are the only things I can think of right now.

Hi NickyP
Wondered if you would find some of this interesting to read . Obviously need some adaptation in parts to suit your own needs but maybe a few ideas . Written by one of our own forum members who understands the complexity of dining with an Ostomy .
Take care ,

Hi NickyP
I had an Ileostomy which has different dietary needs. They can be more demanding. Whereas a colostomy I’ve been told that you can eat normally

They’re an amazing bunch and there is so much info there.
Being a vegetarian are you dairy friendly.
I enjoyed egg mayo on white bread with salted butter. Yummy
A food diary is really helpful, you can add and note what causes an issue with your output
Take care

Hi NickyP
Spooky that my ex wife was NickyP!
Anyway, I had my surgery over 2 years ago now and am a flexitarian (I eat what I like but I do try to eat healthily) and have all but cut out milk, red meat and pork products. However, on those occasions when I do succumb to a crispy bacon sandwich, I don't have any problems. Right from the start, I carried on eating as before, but tried to monitor if anything had particularly dramatic consequences. (The night I had beans on granary toast with two fried eggs on top was a shock)
I now eat quite a bit of vegan stuff even though I still eat meat. I prefer the vegan butter, ice cream, yoghurt and plant based milks anyway (and vegan chocolate)
Unfortunately I guess, for yourself, you may find that salads and veggies do create quite bulky ouput but it should at least be soft!
I suppose your safe option will be white rice, white bread, bland and low fibre, but that will get tedious.
I'm now irrigating each evening, and this gives a degree of freedom as there is not (usually) any output for 24 hours, depending on the success of the irrigation the night before. I'd recommend it as soon as you're recovered enough (your stoma nurses will advise and train you).
Luckily, for me, I'm not phased at all by what appears from my tummy, even when it resembles the beast from Stranger Things !!
Keep positive and all will work out
Richard
Thank you Richard
looks like it’s trial and error !
im going to have to start experimenting soon and just see what the results are.
you take care
Oh my goodness, I’ve just found out was irrigation is ! I think that’s going to take me a while to get to lol
Im just getting used to emptying the stoma bag
