Hi, I am 46 yrs old and just found out I have Rectal Adenocarcinoma.  They are also checking to see if I have lynch syndrome since my dad had rectal cancer also.

I am still in the process of finding out the stage.   I go tomorrow for CT scan and 2 back 2 back MRI"S.  Then surgeon Friday and the cancer Dr Monday.  I know for sure that I have to have surgery.  Depending on the stage I am at, I may have to do other treatments first.

I work a very strenuous job. Allot of lifting and hard labor.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had to go through this same cancer and had a strenuous job also?  Were you able to go back to work like normal after you healed from surgery and/or treatment, or were there restrictions afterwards?

I am just curious and trying to plan ahead if possible.

Thank you ahead of time for any feedback.

  • Hi Walldo

It sounds as if because you have a strenuous job that you are fit for surgery. It sounds strange I know however the core and pelvic floor muscles when strong make a good candidate for abdominal surgery
Im sorry that I can not give you advice on recovery but others will once you know what you’re having. We are treated individually and the wonderful thing about this site is someone will have been through it and have lots of tips

It’s a positive move to plan ahead and research is the key. I found lots of great help here. Google not so much as it sent me spiralling into all kinds of things that were not relevant

Keep talking here if it helps and post up any questions

    Best wishes
