Hello all new here Don't know if I'm jumping the gun by joining this site but any advice any support right now would be greatly appreciated as have no idea what to expect . My doctor has ordered a colonoscopy & chest x-ray this week along with a fecal test and more blood tests . After my first lot revealed sudden anemia as I was concerned about being overly tired all day and no energy whatsoever also blood spotted and frequency and consistency changed in bowel habits . Was just wondering if they say anything if they see anything during colonoscopy. Don't think I would want to know . Thank you for reading xx
Hi Baileysnanny
Try not to overthink the tests it’s a way eliminating anything that may need treatment
My hubby had everything going years back all the symptoms and all the tests and didn’t have cancer. He had Polyps, then IBS then Diverticulitis!
I had a colonoscopy after a positive FIT test and was referred to the relevant tests to diagnose and decide on treatment
If you click on my name you can read my back story though it was cancer I had an operation and no chemo needed Treatment is planned for the individuals
Most don’t have cancer. Others will be along soon to support
Take care
Ann
Hi Baileysnanny and welcome to the board. As Artsie says there are several things that can cause the symptoms that you’re experiencing and a colonoscopy is the best way to get this thoroughly checked out. I met with a nurse after my colonoscopy and was told that they were 99% sure it was bowel cancer and then the wheels were set in motion to get a treatment plan in place.
Only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis but please let us know how you get on?
Take care

Hi Baileysnanny, I'm so sorry for the stress. I definitely felt the same. When you go in for the colonoscopy I would tell them how you feel and I am sure they will take extra sensitive care of you. I was also given the option of sedation or just gas & air. I may like to choose the sedation and you'll be much more relaxed.
A huge good luck but what ever the outcome, I am sure your team will get on top of it. I think the key is to always tell the team what you need at that particular time. In my experience, they are all very sensitive and understand this is very stressful.
Sending you a big, big hug of strength!
Hi Baileysnanny.
You can choose to watch screen through your colonoscopy. I was definitely not interested too!
In some cases, the colonoscopy can reveal very obvious cancer growths - in these cases, you will be told straight after getting redressed and before leaving hospital. This was my experience.
In most cases however, the biopsy results are required 1st, as cells need to be analysed. In these cases, you normally get results 1-3 wks after colonoscopy.
Hi Baileysnanny
Id just like to prepare you for your colonoscopy. The screen is usually quite close to where you’ll be laying down. I took my glasses off but was still able to see it. In my situation it was cancer,nd it was kind of obvious. Try to keep as calm as possible as that doesn’t mean you will have the same outcome. The report is usually done at the same time and you should get a copy, and your resultvery quickly. Wishing you the best of luck.
