Dear all, I am 52 years old woman. 15days ago I did sigmoid removal and colon resection. Has anyone in here undergone a similar surgery? I now have the problem of frequently going to toilet. Waiting to hear from you; thanks in advance
Hi Samina,
Yes lots of us on here have had same or similar so please feel free to ask anything you want. If you click on our usernames you get an insight into our backgrounds.
15 days is still very early for a new reformed bowel and the body as a whole to recover from major surgery. For many the 1st 6 weeks is the settling down phase, while a few manage a faster track others are on a slower track.
I was on a slower track and took months for bowel and toiletting to settle. The best things I can suggest are listen to your body (as we are all different); use low residue/low fibre diet for as long as you need to; be patient as it can be a slow process; and do let GP or Colorectal nurses how you are doing - i waited 2 months to release i needed antibiotic help
Hi
A food diary is a great help then you will be able to tell if there’s one particular food group causing an increase in BMs
I started with beige low fibre then added slowly.
My go to was fish finger sandwich in white bread with mayo
that didn’t upset me
But we are all different
Good luck
Ann
Artsie - am impressed you managed fish fingers. I found breadcrumbs a no go for a few months.
I had lots of undressed fish tho with mash potato or white rice
Ha ha. I didn’t have breadcrumbs I had batter! They’re delicious , though I did have so many I don’t think I could face another for a long while

So sorry late reply. I keep getting logged out of this site so I’m not checking in as much
I was surprised when the nurses told me white bread , pasta etc. as I’d not touched that in years.
so my diet was low fibre and beige looking a bit like a toddler
I hope the diary helps
Ann
