Hi everyone please bear with me as I am very new to online discussions. I was diagnosed with rectal & pelvic lymph node cancer at the end of November 2022, I subsequently was admitted to hospital over Christmas for surgery to construct a stoma so that my treatment could commence. The end of January 2023 I began 5 weeks of radiotherapy with chemo tablets alongside ,5 days a week. At the end of March I began intravenious chemotherapy with chemo tablets for 12 weeks. I'm pleased to say my 1st cycle went well and I'm now due to start cycle number 2 of 4. The treatment I am being given is Oxaliplatin with Capecitabine tablets. The Oxaliplatin causes cold sensitivities and I would like to ask if anyone has experience with the same treatment and how it affected them. Many thanks
Hi starlit . Yes cold sensitivity from oxaliplatin is very common. I would recommend keeping your face and mouth covered when leaving the chemo unit as a chilly breeze can make it feel like a spasm. Gloves should be used for getting things out of the fridge or freezer and any cold drinks should be avoided. I’ve attached a link to a post that we started on chemo top tips which you might find helpful?
Hi,
I agree with Karen I remember going into the toilet in the hospital when on the intravenous oxilaplatin and had a throat spasm due to the cold. My throat used to close up so started having hot tea towards the end of the infusion. Also wore gloves going into fridge. That was 10 years ago. Good luck in your journey. X

Yes , as Karen and Faloola say you get those side effects. My husband was on that CAPOX he completed 4 sessions though before he had to stop as he became quite ill on it. Please don't take my lead on that though because everyone is different and you may sail through yours. My husband sailed through his first 3 but at the end of the 4th began to feel ill and it was stopped then he had a break and went back on another type.
