Hi everyone,

My mom finished her radiation and second round of chemo (out of 8) to treat her stage 3 rectal cancer. Unfortunately after the second round she was admitted to hospital due to her painful headaches leaving her in agony.

one week later she has made a great recovery, and no sign of the spead of cancer. the doctor says they need to have a discussion as chemo may not be suiting her. Today in her MRI scan a small blood clot showed up in her brain. We cannot get this properly investigated until the team are back in on Tuesday, which means mom has to stay in hospital until then. And which means I will worry and not sleep until then. Has anyone any information or experiences or even knowledge on blood clots?? Will it effect her chemo/ cancer treatments.
will it cause a stroke?

thank you,

  • Hi

Have you managed to get a chat with the dr on the ward ? What type of ward is she in ?

Our helpline staff might have some information on this area 0808 808 0000.

Blood clots can sometime occur with cancer but I am no expert and don’t have enough knowledge but the helpline staff would be hopefully able to get a nurse to advise you .

  • Hi Court,

thank you for asking: she is doing much better, she has been given blood thinners and the team will decide if she will continue with chemo or have surgery first.

    thanks

  • What a relief for you .
She will get there and sounds as though they have a good grasp of her needs .
