Hi there .. it’s  early days  I know, but I’m lying awake worrying. The doctor called me today and told me I had an high indicator in my stool, sample for bowel cancer. My stools have been loose for about two weeks and potent but there has been one very minimal incidence of blood you could hardly see it. I thought it was a bug.  My tummy has felt a bit tender over the last week or two.. especially after bowel movements. My doctor was very abrupt. I don’t even know where my appointment is for a colonoscopy.

Again, I know there are far more serious situations on here just looking for some advice and guidance or reassurance.

Thank you

  • Hi Joseph John

I wanted to just say hello to you and try to reassure you that most cases prove not to be cancer. There’s so many different reasons for a change in bowel movements or blood in the stools. The very best thing to do is get it checked out which you have done

My hubby had every test going his diagnosis was polyps, IBS then diverticulosis

He's careful with what he eats and when he has an upset he returns to his safe foods

    best wishes

  • Thank You so much for the reply Ann. I’m hoping it’s something similar or it’s caught early!! I guess I’m just thinking the worse.

The irony is for me for the past week and a half. I’ve been on a meat free die,  and felt much better.

Thanks again. Hope your husband has it under control.

    Kind Regards

    Joe

  • Hi Joseph John. As Ann says there are lots of things that can cause similar symptoms to bowel cancer - ibs, piles, crohns, diverticulitis, colitis but the main thing is to get checked out. The gold standard treatment aims to provide you with an appointment within 2 weeks of your referral so you should hear something quite soon - if not chase your doctor up.

Only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis so please let us know how you get on?

    Take care

  • Hi Joe

Thanks for replying. Joe my husband has it sorted he knows what can cause a flare up. Strangely it seems to be high fibre.

All the things that are classed as healthy.

We struggled years with healthy high fibre which made him so ill, so now he’s fine on lots of beige food.
All the years I tried my best to think healthy and I was making him ill

    Hope things settle for you

  • Hi Karen

I really appreciate this reply. I felt a lot better after reading it. The doctor told me exactly that that I should have a colonoscopy withIn 2 weeks! It’s just the waiting until then and not knowing what’s going on inside! I think I need to stop reading about stuff and try focus on the positives that you pointed out!

    Thanks again.

    Joe

  • Hi Ann

that is so strange, the same thing happened to me. I used to love special K, but I found after I was eating them. My stomach would flare up and my stools would be a lot and loose! The same with fibred bread! I had to stop eating that too! Now I tend to just stick to vegetables and fruit and no meat!

Thanks again for your support I will let you know how I get on.

  • Hi there.
You may be like my Joe. Sorry to say but try eating beige for a few days and see how that helps. My hubby could never be vegan. Our daughter has similar issues and has found now vegan she’s better

It’s never one thing suits all.
