I had colonoscopy and was told that they found something and looked like it was 99% cancerous I have been refered for ct scan and mri scan I am so scared was looking for abit of advice
Hi Shyness and welcome to the board. Yes it’s scary but bowel cancer is pretty slow growing and very treatable. The next couple of weeks will be stressful while you wait for scan results and tests but once your team has all the information that they need then they will meet with any other department involved and decide on a treatment plan for you.
Please stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date. If you click on my name then you can see the treatment that I had for my rectal cancer and you can type ‘rectal’ in the search box at the top of the screen to see previous posts.
Once you have a plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better and we’ll be happy to help and support you through this
Take care
Karen x
It is shocking when they find something and are 99% sure it is cancer. I had a tumour in my sigmoid and they could not get past it during my colonoscopy. The following scans/MDT meeting is in my opinion the worst part as you don't know what the prognosis is and the wait for answers is awful but once they have a plan for you, it does make you feel better. I totally agree with Karen062 about avoiding Google as the information is out of date and totally misleading. If you have any questions or just want to express your feelings, this really is the best place as we have all been where you are now. Be kind to yourself and try and treat yourself. Sending hugs and positivity to you love Mel xx
Hello Shyness: I'm probably a week or two ahead of you, I've had CT & MRI and saw surgeon last week - take someone with you with a pen and notebook, I think I missed quite a lot of what was being said but my daughter was scribbling and asking questions. It's difficult to take it all in, I've tried to be as positive as possible but the whole thing is very scary. I wasn't expecting to have a temporary stoma but of course if they can remove the cancer and sew rectum back together it makes sense the 'dirty' stuff doesn't pass through until it's healed. I'm staying on this forum and hoping that any questions can be answered by people on here who have experienced everything we're currently dealing with.
Good luck Shyness, I hope all goes well with you ... and me!! Take care JJ
Hi Jessie j
Thank you for giving me that advice as it is true you don’t take in what they are telling you I was same after I had my colonoscopy and they told me I blanked off and just wanted out the room it’s true it is a very scary thing have you had a date for operation? I hope all goes well for you x
Hi Shyness,
Welcome to the board but so sorry you find yourself here. I well remember being told the same at my 1st colonoscopy and it’s a very scary time.
Over the next couple of weeks you’ll have CT & MRI scans then there will be a MDT (Multi Disciplinary Team) meeting to discuss the best treatment plan for you. At this point you’ll have a meeting with you consultant who will go through your treatment plan (take someone with you if you can as there’s a lot to take in). Waiting for this is extremely stressful and I think almost everyone will agree this is the worst time. Once you get the results and have a way forward you will feel better – honestly. Do stay off ‘Google’ as Kareno62 Mel M have said & ask anything on here you want to know. We’ve all been in your position and know what you’re going through. The support on here is amazing.
Take care of yourself,
Net77
Hi Shyness ,
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
I was here in a similar situation to you in December. I am however out the other side & now on 5 year surveillance.
This forum helped me get reliable information/facts & know what to expect at each stage. It also helped me remain positive because of learning it's generally slow growing & because of the hope that I gleaned from peoples stories.
I used all my energy to focus on seeing myself out the other side.
I know it's hard but please try to be positive and take one step at a time.
Keep reaching out,
Bee x
Hi Shyness, I had the colonoscopy in November 22 and I could tell by the surgeon wasn't too happy about what he was seeing! I had the CT scan same day and Mri a week later. Have no fear they are lovely people doing this kind of work. Because it was visually diagnosed as cancerous a meetings were set up with Oncology and Surgery later that month. My wife was unable to attend so I asked the oncology registrar and Surgeon if I could record the meetings on my mobile phone which they allowed with no problem so my wife could listen later. I realised how much I had missed. It then took 3 biopsies to prove it was cancerous and my treatment program of chemo tablets at home and daily radio therapy (5 mins) for 5 weeks is now half way through and I'm feeling well. So stay positive and don't worry, good luck. This is an amazing resource so use it!
