The worst valentines day of my life. I have been suffering with heavy periods so was under the hospital for this and due to have a hysterectomy, I'm anaemic so my doctor suggested I do a stool sample just to eliminate any issues there. Had a colonoscopy Tuesday and they have found a 5cm tumour. MRI dept called with appointment, I had only just walked out of the hospital. Still waiting for CT scan. I feel like I'm on an emotional roller coaster, one minute I'm positive and the next I am sobbing. Its like its nit my life I'm in.
Hi Tazza1975, those feelings you are experiencing, most of us have travelled down that path. When all the tests have been completed, your medical team will have a plan for you and this will reassure you. I went through exactly the same thing last July following a colonoscopy where a tumour was found in the sigmoid area of my colon, then CT/MRI, followed by MDT meeting, then met with surgeon and operated on within 3 weeks. Please just be kind to yourself and know that we are all with you. Try and find some distractions, I know, easier said than done . This forum is great for support and I also use the Bowel Cancer UK forums as they are very supportive and full of useful information. Good luck with all your tests an let us know how you get on. xx
Mel has given you excellent advice and direction.
on a personal note… Im exactly where you are ,,It is like walking in a fog and my brain couldn’t comprehend daily life.due to a few nhs hold ups etc I’m still waiting on colonoscopy and another separate consultation for another area… I’ve found myself coping a bit better now by re evaluating what’s happening , stages etc through reading through this fantastic , knowledgeable forum that kind people share their experiences!
oh and I have fell out with the world a few times , but then something or someone brings to my mind how lucky I am in other areas of my life and I tell myself health will get sorted!
oh and I also phoned local macmillan nurse just really to talk a bit about my emotions and coping , this really helped lift me up
Also popped into local Maggie for a blether then some quiet time to myself ,, it kinda made me feel in control again !
Hi Tazza1975 - it is tough. It must have been a huge shock and hopefully you will settle down a bit emotionally as it sinks in. I was diagnosed at the start of December and had the CT scan within 2 weeks - so maybe not too long to wait for you. I think the waiting is hard! My op was postponed due to COVID - so I would advise you take all precautions - and like Mel says - try and distract yourself until you get some news re: treatment plan. All the best x
Thank you for your message. I hope.you are doing well since your surgery. I now have my CT scan on Tuesday and the MDT meeting is on the 28th. Someone has told me to start taking Zinc tablets as supposed to help if I should need treatment has anyone else heard of this? Thanks x
